Preventing spawns

I'm wondering if there are ways to prevent certain characters from spawning, without the extreme measures of coding and making a full mod for it.

I'm mostly interested in the Antlions before and during the Nova Prospekt chapter. I would like to play through it without them, but i dont know how to prevent them from spawning.

This might or might not remove the all-important antlion guard...

Nooooo! You can prevent them from spawning by not walking on the sand. It's not that hard Half-Life 2 is best when played without any cheats or such.

Not during and before the Nova Prospekt chapter, when all the guards are walking on sand aswell

Or you make your ar2 do 1000 damage and never worry about them getting close.
