I think the administrators had technical difficulties having their sense of humour decrypted by steam!

What is up with you guys? Loads of threads have been closed that are posted as a bit of humour, e.g. the dummy ending thread and the drunk thread, I can understand moving them from tech support if they aren't relevant but a bit of room to 'have a bit of "fun" (remember fun? it's what you see OTHER people having)!

isn't netiquette a simple case of no racism, no abuse, no offensive material?

no offence intended by this at all but lighten up man geez

"
General Half-Life 2
General topics relating to Half-Life 2."

I wonder why...

Maybe because some raving loser trying to get attention by saying he's drunk isn't in any related to Half-Life 2?

As for the other, it was just stupid trolling.

how is talking about something not related to a computer game being a loser? I can see the drunk thing getting removed, but the other stuff is funny...there should be a forum just for drunk comedians

It's the fact that he's undoubtedly some 12 year old idiot trolling for attention.

Any real adult would have better things to do than go around proclaiming that he was drinking because it's nothing special, but since he made some big deal of it I'm certain it was just some kid who either managed to open that Miller in the fridge that his dad was saving, or he was just being an idiot.

Or both.

thanks for proving my point u misery

it's just a bit of fun to pass the time, when you say nothing better to do, do you mean nothing better to do than put people down, spoil people's fun, I'd hate to go to a party where someone was foolish enough to invite you! and what is a 'real adult' for christs sake? a real sign of immaturity is feeling the need to come over all mature all the time

if you see a post titled "drunk" or "blah blah spanners and chimps" then you know it's not HL related and have a choice not to read it don't you!?

They can lock/close/move all they want, you people seem to think that you own this forum in one way or another, but you don't. Don't complain when they close something, it was closed for a reason, you are lucky they are letting people even post on hl2.net shit you people take things for granted to much, if it wasn't for people like Munro, this site wouldn't be around right now.

Seeing as how the reply doesn't even have simple english (u misery, care to explain what that means?) it's fairly obvious you don't understand the concept of forum guidelines.

1. Stay on or within reasonable reference of the topic of the forum.

2. Anything else goes in... the... umm... OFF TOPIC forum.

If a moderator sees a post entitled "OMG beer!" in a forum specifically made for Half-Life 2 discussion then he has the right(and the obligation) to lock it. That's what they do. If you cannot handle the fact that the off topic forum is located at the bottom of the page, then go to GameFAQs or somewhere that doesn't give a flop about that.

exactly.
besides, if u want "fun" threads, there is an Off topic forum too which does have some light hearted threads... just gotta look around.

oh and btw, wrong section ;)

u = you
misery = er... misery?

do I really need to explain this?

the fake ending topic was about half life/half life related!

and as I did say, if it's in the wrong forum why not just move it instead of closing/deleting it?

Why must you question everything?

Hey, thanks so much for posting this thread. I was considering doing it myself, but instead I sent the moderator The Dark Elf a private message about my thread, "Stopping Breen (What you didn't know!)" being unjustly closed. He has yet to respond. The thread was obviously a hoax that I thought people would find funny. I spent some time writing all of that (nothing significant, but still) and I wanted to see what people would thinki.

But then one moderator who seems to have a bug up his butt comes along and closes it because he thinks it's "rubbish." I came to these forums thinking they will be less moderated than Steam, where threads are sometimes randomly closed or disappear for no reason, but it seems to me like these forums are WORSE. The moderators are cranky and lame. Steam moderators at least aren't rude.

"u misery"

What does it mean? Was it being used to describe me? If so, how/what is a misery?

Duh... English. Remember?

And you usually get MUCH less negative feedback if you move away from the AIM talk and use real english.

Wow you are a funny guy too. Steam is so moderated because of the amount of assholes on that forum, its horrible, what else can they do? Threads don't randomly close or dissapear, here or there, they are closed for a reason. Don't like the moderators then leave, no one is holding you here against your will.

Maybe their browser was hijacked by HL2.net and now they cannot close it or switch to any other site than HL2.net.

And every time they try to shut down, it closes all the windows, but pops back up and says: "Haha, sucker! You're mine!"

because I want answers

I don't want a big flaming rukkus here, I just think some things are taken a little TOO seriously is all

You don't deserve answers because A.) You aren't a mod or admin and B.) You don't own this forum

So no you won't get an answer, quit trolling.

That drunk thread would have fit into the Off-topic forum either. Threads like that would be closed where ever you are. And if you don't like it here, beat it.

They are taken seriously because you're complaining about the moderators doing their job.

They remove threads that have no relevance to HL2 from the HL2 forum(as this will soon be).

As for that "ending thread", it didn't have ANYTHING to do with HL2 except the name Breen.

Depending on the response from the moderator to my private message, it is likely that I will leave. But don't go and think I'm taking your advice because I don't have a shred of respect for you, kissing up to the mods and all when it's obvious they are overdoing it a bit. Sad. If people are posting replies to the thread and enjoying it, then why close it? Why? They must have nothing better to do than exercise their "power."

sh1t, we question the admin and are being referred to as "they" already ! I guess I'm off some christmas lists

I'll make sure to post in the proper place from now on, please don't keep me back after school though!

Why is it that people complain about the mod powers then saying they are going to leave, and just come back and post and bitch all the time? I don't quite understand that one myself.

Kissing up to the mods? I am sick of people that always complain about threads being closed, the ones closed are closed for a reason, and I respect their decision, unlike you.

So you are saying people that are spamming topics with useless junk, they should keep those threads open too? Yeah thats smart...

They should exercise their "power" and get rid of you.

spoken like a true fascist, I'd be offended if I wasn't laughing at the thought of your maniacal grin as you smear yourself in marmite and masturbate on a bed of C++ printouts

ziek heil Jobe!

Am I the only one here thinking the majority of the members that joined between November 2004 and now are complete assholes?

I referred to you as they because there are TWO of you complaining about it now. Also I was talking about ill-mannered trolls in general.

Good god, are you that dense?

Singular: He/She/It

Plural: They

That's kindergarten stuff.

spoken like a true fascist, I'd be offended if I wasn't laughing at the thought of your maniacal grin as you smear yourself in marmite and masturbate on a bed of C++ printouts

Spoken like a true fool.

Bad troll, go away now.

I'd give you a 1/10 (+1 for persistence).

Am I the only one here thinking the majority of the members that joined between November 2004 and now are complete assholes?

Nope. Wait... (looks at the join date). Umm... Still, you're not alone in that opinion.

No, you aren't They started coming two weeks before the release, and now they are jus everywhere, still there are some nice ones.

this stuff REALLY bothers you

they was not used only in the context of plural d1ckhead, it was used with emphasis on NOT 'us' are you that dense?

you've hurt my feelings and I'm going to cry now, why are you getting so personal, I'm just speculating, voicing an opinion like people are entiltled to do, as in like, freedom of speech etc

nevermind, sorry I spoke forget it, I'm not trying to make anyone angry, I'm a nicve guy under the gimp mask

Wow... That was too dumb for words... You SERIOUSLY need to learn some basic grammar before you make your next post, I can barely understand you. It's all nonsensical gibberish.

Don't say it bothers me, I'm just having fun with the trolls. It's like poking the monkeys at the zoo with sticks.

I find it kind of funny(odd) that you're trying to play as some sort of oppressed person with no freedom to speak their mind. It's not convincing in any way, nor is it funny(ha-ha).

I just meant a divide was established, grammar wasn't the point I was making - just because I disagree with someone doesn't mean I need to try to belittle them in some way - don't you think you are being way too personal on this J?

I'm just poking at grammar because you are going on and on, but less than a quarter of it makes any sense.

Look all, just forget I mentioned it (if you haven't already) let's all pretend that it's all good and perfect and not upset the (non-noobs/veterans/gods/jobes/nerds) and all get along like good, decent human beans :)

hehe...there's a lot of peeps always on the defense in this forum and always a bunch of 'em ready to flame....needless to say there is also a shit load of jerkoffs. No offence to anyone....it's just the internet forum way.

As for the mods, I think they're pretty leaninent(sp) in many aspects .
Some threads really go way out there for a long time. They close 'em when they get fed up,,,that's all.

lmao...don't wanna be the grammer natzi but....."human beans" ? lol
hope that was a joke.

Look, the majority of the staff here have been with the site for a good deal of time now, and know what the drill is when it comes to the rules. We've been running this place for well over a year with very few complaints, so something must be going right. The pressure has been significantly increased in recent times, what with the game itself coming out and all, and we've really been taking a no-nonsense policy here - spam and idiocy has risen bigtime, so we're just trying to cut down on whatever we can before it gets a chance to develop. Things will hopefully settle down again with time, so everything can return to normality. Until then, apologies if you think threads were removed unjustly, but a decision was made - and that's what we've been chosen here for; to make decisions about keeping the forum clean.

ok people.
it's december...
and it's 2 weeks to x-mas...
so let's just be nice to each other, ok? :p

and admins/mods are here to keep order on the forums and to help us if we need it. ther decisions must not always be fair and understood to all but it's their job. it's not like they shouldn't sometimes give some answers about closing threads, that not neccesarily should be closed. let's just pretend that they every time have reasons to do it and move on...

I think that there should be some daily post limit for new members. that would stop some of them from flooding the forums with irrelevant posts.

That wouldn't work, because there is so many people it would still happen.
