Hey, IM new to this forums and I have a problem with my HL2, whenever I start it the game loads until the load screen (the bllury street with Load sign at lower right corner) then the game exits and I get error "Failed to set video mode" then when I click OK it tries again and then return error thet I need hardware supported by at least DirectX 7.0

My graphic card is GeForce 4 MX Integrated GPU with latest drivers also I have DIrectX 9.0c

Is there a way to make it work ?

thanks,

I also tried with "-console"

Forgot ot mention it when I was writing before :)

You can edit your posts, you know :p

Double posting (two posts immediatly after each other) is heavily frowned upon here

First off : Your graphic card is too weak. It'll probably be able to play it, but it will be miserable quality. I think there's a solution for your problem somewhere on these forums, I've seen the thread recently. I'll see if I can find it.

this one maybe too. What you should do is downgrade your drivers (that thread has a link to the drivers).

Could you give us the specifications of your computer? (You can find detailed information by pressing Start-->Execute-->Type in : dxdiag)
Now copy the information on that first tabpage and show it.

Not true, originally on HL2's release i was playing on a Geforce 4 MX 440SE 64.0mb with 256mb DDR RAM and an Intel Celeron 2.5ghz CPU, i then upgraded to 768mb RAM, and a 9600SE 128mb which ran a lot better but now i have upgraded to an AGP X700 256mb :) and gonna get a new mobo with AMD Athlon 64 3200 + and upgrade to 1024gb ram so i will be pretty much sorted, even if i have completed hl2 :P

do u have the newest drivers from nvidia usually those caused problems with hl2

No... If he has the latest drivers those can cause problems... most likely he needs older drivers.

I had the SAME problem, and had to downgrade my drivers. My video card WAS a nVidia GeForce FX 5200.
I'm planning to get me a nVidia GeForce FX 5700LE.

ur better off with going with a 6600 or 6600gt since 5700le isnt really taht different except u can use high shader on hl2 and it ocs well

I can't afford to get a really high-end card right now. :P A 5700LE is ALOT better then this piece of intergraded crap I have. :|

I'm going by what the computer guy who built my system suggested. He said it has to be a MSI-made 1, which is the same company that made my TV/FM Tuner Card.

(like I said, I HAD a nVidia GeForce FX 5200 card, that worked beautifilly with HL2, but had to take it out due to an incompatibility with Windows XP's Service Pack 2).
