For those people who think that hl2 can still come out in late October early November here is some bad news. Halo2 went gold, and was handed over the Microsoft for distributing on the 4th, and is set to be released on the 5 of November. This just goes to confirm that the late November leased date may be accurate, as it seems to take a month to distribute.

right now i dont even care. i hope it comes out before 2006, thats all.

doesn't always take that long, there are lots of cases of games going gold and then being out in 2 weeks on store shelves. (few times even under 2 weeks)

i jus hope its out before dec 2004.

EDIT: dude that my avatar..... :flame:

Huh? This doesn't mean anything. Max Payne 2 came out like a week after gold. If Vivendi wanted the same, they would have done it. They are just holding back until holiday season.

Yes. Let's base halo2 as the minimum amount of time to go from gold to store shelves ;) Come on guys it'll be fun I promise!

Ummm, different games have different length in gold. I remember on June 10th WarCraft III went gold *A HUGE RELEASE duh* and it came out July 1st/2nd.

Sometimes console games seem longer, but Halo 2 is still going through testing, it went sorta gold, but since it's a console game they need to test it longer.

Don't compare two games, it depends on how fast VU wants to print it. I still believe late October is very reasonable due to the fact that Valve is pushing VU weather they like it or not.

y are we talking release dates???? has it gone gold have i missed something here?!

You are in a room, surrounded by computer equipment.
At the far end of the room a computer screen is dimly lit, covered with dust.
In front of the screen is a skeleton.
There is a gamecase next to the screen.

> examine gamecase

You see an abundance of first person shooter games.
Next to the game "Half-Life" there is an empty space with a note.

> read note

It reads: "OmG..ItS tEh Hl2 SpAcE11!!"

A game falls off the far end of the case on to the monitor.

> Examine monitor

You remove some of the dust with the palm of your hands.
Although still hard to make out you can make out some of the text on the display, one newsheadline peaks your interest.

"Finally after 15 years of waiting, the company formally named "Valve" (we ofcourse know it as "Wait") is releasing plans to start the 19032th preload of the allmost forgotten Half-Life 2 game, wich was supposed to be released by Vivendi some decades ago.

This update consists of:

-Gordons left toenail texture "

> Examine skeleton

Badly decayed the skeleton sits in a "lay-z-boy" chair, hands still firmly grasped onto the mouse.

You see some cloth on the skeleton's chest.

> Examine cloth

The cloth, probably a "t-shirt" at some point has the image of a crowbar on it...

Look, the release date is fixed. Bungie could have gone gold one week later or one week earlier - it wouldn't have made any difference.

HUGE CORRECTION: Halo 2 has not gone gold.
There has been no official announcement. The developers have said that it is "done and dusted", but that is all. They are up to the RC stage just like our beloved HL2.

Unreal Torunament 2003 went gold a week before it was released. So they CAN press games in that amount of time.

great, after upgrading the pc to run hl2 decently, now i've got to go and buy an xbox to play the successor to what was supposed to be a pc game. just great

HL2 does have an ESRB that has been confirmed by Gabe, just look in the Valve email section.

All I want is the HL2 packages to be ready for purchasing this week.
Then I will have CS:S, and be happy for long enough, until HL2 comes out.
