Hello hl2.net ValveTime.net. It's been a while.

I've spent the past few years attempting to do a PhD, and as a part of that, I've designed a short experiment in the form of a Half-Life 2 mod. If you're interested, and anyone's actually still around here, I'd really appreciate it if you guys had a look and tried it out:

See you in another five years.

I don't know how I'd categorise it. It's a research mod, designed to test your abilities. It's not story-driven. I suppose a lot of the mechanics are reminiscent of Half-Life 2.

Also, congratulations to GamerDude27, the first person to complete the game.

Druckles, what the **** are you doing here?

IT'S BEEN TOO LONG.

I've had to take it down. Sorry, guys. We have to rework one of the levels which is currently much too hard.

It will be back up again after the weekend. Thanks to everyone who's played so far.

You were. You were lucky with its difficulty ;-)

It's back up.

Looks interesting, I'll be sure to give it a go once I get home.

Just played it, and to my suprise, I liked it a lot.

Had some problems with connecting with the server, though. Maybe I just live far away from the server, but I'm not entirely sure.

Glad you liked it, Lolcomputer (even if it was surprising ;)).

Sorry about any issues with the server. It's running on a semi-dedicated machine, but it wasn't built to run as a server unfortunately. What issues did you have specifically?

P.s. You should try it on a harder difficulty; 23% is pretty easy.

I've been unable to play whatsoever, New Game gives me a 'Sock: Could not get information from server' error. Any advice

It looks like the server is timing out waiting for your game to send it messages. The time-out on the client is about 1s, and on the server it's 800ms, which is quite a long time. You're based in the southern hemisphere, right, KA?

Edit: I've increased the server time-out to 1s, KA. Try it again, but if you're still having problems, it may be better to wait for the post-experiment version, which won't have to connect to my (little, tiny) server.

Couldn't connect at the last point of the game, and in result, I didn't recieve any evaluation. Perhaps it has to do with me alt-tabbing out of the game, but it was stuck for 2 minutes trying to connect, so I just did something else in the meantime it was trying to connect. When I returned, it just said it was unable to establish connection with the server.

And, how exactly do you change the difficulty? I thought it was a dynamic system, but after your post, I believe I'm mistaken.

It registered your game, but looks like it couldn't get your statistics. Here ya go: http://www.projectblueroom.com/76561198013401249

It's not dynamic yet. At the moment it's static throughout the game, but every time you start a new game it assigns you a different (random) difficulty. It may give you an easier difficulty next time, but chances are that it'll be harder. But don't tempt the pseudo-random number generators.

Yeah, Lolcomputer. There was a bug in the game which caused it to crash after registering the game complete. Annoying that I didn't notice until today, but it's been fixed now.
