What if publishers were to develop their OWN online delivery systems? That way when a development house like Valve or Bungie make a game, it can either be downloaded online or purchased in stores. The publishers will be getting into this.

Comments, questions?

if thats the case, as a customer, why not just buy the game directly from Valve? i mean if publishers are smart enough to develop their own online delivery system, why aren't other developers smart enough to follow Valve's lead? :p

anyway for publishers the smartest thing is probably spice up their retail packages so these packages are better buys.

example? make the Collectors Edition really compete with systems like Steam by adding more value and more meaningful content to these special editions.

and the normal retail versions could definitely use some "spice"
but hey...i don't care about publishers so **** em :)

From the amount of work Valve has had to put into Steam to get the thing working as well as it is now?

I think they would rather just pay Valve to use Steam. Because it is already working.

It would be like Steam, but with a middle man. People would avoid it like the plauge.

the only game publishers that will be able to survive in the near future are ones such as EA, where most all the games they publish are developed inhouse. i predict within the next ten years or so, companies will start up steam like systems.
who knows, maybe instead, valve will themselves become an online publisher of sorts for other game developers.
