if you watvhed all the films in a row it would be about 9 hours!!!

something to do on a sunday i guess.

Well if you watch all the extended edition once they are all out they will be nigh on 11 hours long!!! :E

And i dont care if saruman is cut from the theatrical edition. As far as im concerned its the extended editions that are peter jacksons definitive versions of the films...

Sarumans death should have been included in Two Towers, but they just didnt have the time for it. They intended to have it included at the start of ROTK, but since Saruman has no part in the ROTK story at all it just didnt flow with the movies pace. Most movie goers will be fine with it since they will figure the threat of Saruman came to an end after the battle at Helms Deep. Jackson Himself, after reviewing the theatrical cut during editing, felt it would be better for the flow of ROTK if it didnt include the death of Saruman.

Maybe I'm missing something here but saruman, according to the books, dies pretty much right at the end of the third book. Why the crap would they put it at the beggining of the third movie?

anyways I've come to the conclusion that you've never read the books or I don't know whats going on. Either way I'd prefer they keep the scene.

no, ive read the books. In the books he dies after the Scourging of the Shire. But that part of the story wont be in the movies at all, so Saruman doesnt play a role in the third movie at all.

They planned to kill him off at the end of Two Towers(since his role in the movies was basically over after the ents took Orthanc, and there wont be a Scouring of the Shire), then they bumped it to the beginning of ROTK due to time restraints. But after viewing the theatrical release of ROTK, Jackson feels its better for the flow of the movie to not have Saruman in it at all, so his death sequence is gone.

I was looking forward to the scene aswell, but i understand the reasons for it being cut from the theatrical release. I cant really be upset about it though, since cuttting it only improves the theatrical release. Thats how Jackson sees it, and i believe in his ability to make these decisions. He has proven himself on more than one occasion.

thanks for clearing that up... I was wondering what they were gonna do about the shire part at the end. And I agree that Peter Jackson is a good director. I guess all i can do now is hope that the final product works out for the best. I still did sign the petition though.

No scouring of the shire? Isnt that pretty much the last 1/2-/13 of the third book. Last time i read it, and i admit it was a couple years back that was a major chunk of the final volume.

Fans of the books and films have known this fact since the first film came out on DVD where jackson reveals there is no scouring of the shire at the end of the film version of ROTK. If you listen to the commentary during the mirror of galadriel scene where frodo seees a premonition of the scouring of the shire jackson says something like 'since we dont have a scouring of the shire at the end of ROTK we have it here instead.' He's gone on record as saying the same thing many times since.

I can see why he wont be including it in the film as it would mean sacrificing a LOT of other important events from the film to keep it under the time constraints New Line Cinema have imposed. Also it would mean that the flow of the film is disturbed as the battle of pelennor fields in the film would have to happen after the first hour or so and the battle before the blackgate just after the middle. The main villain Sauron would also have to be vanquished near the middle of the film. Becaose of this I dont believe the film wouldnt flow right no matter which way you cut it. If you have seen both the extended cuts of the first two films despite the changes then you would know they flow perfectly and somehow feel shorter as the totally draw you into the events despite the changes to the story. Including the scouring would make even the extended cut of ROTK simply not flow the way a film should.

Anyhow... so long as you get to see the saruman death scene in the ext ROTK DVD then whats the fuss about???

What a cry baby this actor is, you havent seen the film so you cant judge - the editors who removed it have and decided to cut it. Cry me a river.

lol!! :E Christopher lee is a huge fan of the LOTR books so feels the same way as many of the other fans. He's so much of a LOTR devotee that he's read it at least once a year since publication (almost 50 times) and peter jackson describes him as the biggest ROTK fan he's ever met!

As i said i dont care if its cut... However if PJ cuts it from the ext edition too....:flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

His death scene wasnt cut to save time. The man himself, P.J., explained it all in an e-mail and his explination is more than reasonable.

It wasnt cut to save time, it was a conscious decision made by Jackson to improve the quality of the theatrical release. These things like Sarumans death, which are counter-productive to the flow of the movie itself, are and should be saved for the extended DVD.

No matter how many signatures you get on a petition, Jackson has creative control over which scenes fit and which dont. And since he knows more about his movie than any of you, leave it to him to make the right decisions. Hes done a fantastic job so far, have faith in him.

if that's true....then all I have to say is:

hahahhahahahhahahahahhaha...wow. Who cares? I thought it was going to be an important part of the movie just cut off or something...But I guess I am not as hardcore as some people out there. However...god, lighten up :P

I'm a fan of the book...I don't care, at leat not at this early point.
Maybe in Jan after I've seen it, but not now.

If you don't know, apparently Peter Jackson has cut Christopher Lee (sarumans) final scenes out of the cinematic print of the Return of the King to save 7 minutes off the time. So the only way you'll be able to see them is if you fork out for the supa expensive DVD collectors edition when it appears half a year down the road.

Needless to say a lot of people think this would be a tragic mistake, especially given that saruman is the most visible Bad guy in the whole trilogy. So if you give a damn then visit the site and sign the petition.

Thanks! I'll be sure to pay a visit to this site.

Yea its too late and I dont know if I should care, I dont know what exactly I would be missing...

But I signed it anyways...
