It's about 7 days work, I'm planning it as a short 3 map single player mod, This is my first map for hammer, before this I was using GTK-Radiant for a gaming course on how to design levels.

looks nice- very 28 days later-y.. sort of reminiscent of that first scene where he gets up and everyones gone..
also, hot, I'm from northern Ireland too!
and where did you get the music for that trailer?

good lighting there. remember to add characters. no mod is a mod without characters, and fill your map with detail (which i mean physics objects)

It's on the credits of the trailer, and limewire of course :smoking:

@soulslicer0: I'm in a agreement with you, characters are important, don't expect this to be run'n'gun (well 50% might be :P) I love games with stories, and 'll be sure to give this short guy a story ;)

Oooh, another hot564231 original production? This I'll have to keep my eyes on ;)

My sarcastism detector went off the charts.

Btw, I've learned the short comings of a mod team, I do most work myself.

Would you like me to comment hot, or shall I just keep quiet? I've a feeling my damning words would again bring anarchy to hot564231 studios.

Well, tell you what, say what the mod is all about.

I really don't care, I'm free to take this small mod in either direction I want.

No, seriously, you have my interest. What is "Quarantine" all about.

Ah, you edited more to your comment, didn't see that, Basic story of this is YOU the player have broke into the Quarantine Zone. You're there seeking answers to questions that the Quarantine control force aren't giving, it's been 5 years since the Quarantine was in place and control isn't as tight, you break in through the sewer system (yet to be mapped) and proceed from there.

And all I'll tell you, this mod won't have a happy hero ending.

Why is there a Quarantine? Zombies? Rabie-ridden frogs? Also, is there not a more interesting, less unoriginal location to use as opposed to the sewer?

Give a me a believeable location to enter from, and I'll take it up.

and yes, zombies more or less, some soldiers as well.

This isn't a magical new generation mod btw, standard HL2 mechanics mixed with replacment models and etc.

Zombies and Soldiers aren't quite original. Anything you could spice it up with?

If he did he wouldn't make them evident.

You would defeat him by first distracting him by tossing out a bunch of games at him for him to critique. Once occupied by that, you would prepare some kind of moderator complaint report, then get his attention by addressing him as "Salmon". Then you just hand the report to Munro with alt. fire and hope Munro looks when Salmon is yelling at you for adding a letter to him name on "accident".

Your plan is flawed in that Munro doesn't actually read anything.

And stop tearing apart the community.

It'd never work, Munro isn't aware he has a hl2.net forum. No, I talked to him a couple days ago. "What about the forum?" "What forum?"

I guess the only chance then is to collect thousands of signatures with a petition by turning this mod into an MMO.

like I said, its going to span 3 maps.

As the title says, I'm making it in my free time, I do have another mod in pre-production which I'll won't say any further. ;)

Too terrible to contemplate. I'm not quite sure how I'll react to the revival of Opposing Shephard. Tell me it's not true?

Oh now that'd be swell! I can honestly I have never gotten so much enjoyment from a cancelled mod as Opposing shepard, so if you ever actually finish it that'll be even better!

By the way hot564231, how come we never see you around phwonline any more? :(

Yeah, he probably learned google.

Yea it's TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!....

No, not really, it's something else, something not even related to the hl2 uni, the story is still being worked on, 68 pages just 20 mins ago.

I'm in college, finishing up next week.

Looks nice, hot. The trailer was a bit dark though.

When will you release it?

PS. Nice touch with the G-Man. :cheese:

Oh, well, hope to see you again then come next week :) Lord knows we all miss you something awful over there. We see our mistakes in the past, however and removed the ban. All is forgiven, please com back?

Oh, and I would give my right testicle to read the story for that mod if you're writing it.

The story is mainly for me, a few friends and Voice Overs. it's good too build an idea of what you want. and then try and map it the way you wrote it, I've gone through 4 major rewrites in parts of the story, I did have aliens, but they were cut, I had a super hero plot twist, got cut, the intro was rewrote, shorten to a 3rd of what it was, and numberous characters cut.

Why is it, that you guys think I need your permission to do something :dozey:

I have half a mind to tall you to mind your own business. :upstare:

No one said you needed anyone else's permission.

And as long as you're posting on a public forum, you should expect that other people are going to post in reply to you. You see, that's what these things are for. If you don't want that, then you should probably be elsewhere.

At any rate, I suspect most people are skeptical because of your prior projects. Me? I'm just a cynical bastard.

Stop telling porkies Mike, you know full well you want aspiring mod teams to pitch their ideas to you, only so that you may gain the immense satisfaction of pulling a : | and stamping a big, red FAIL right across their cute little design document. Ladies and gentlemen, Mike Pelletier.

Criticism makes you stronger!

Bah, I was going to write a long post here, but the hell with it, but here the thing, back then, I didn't know to map back then, and was limit in my tracks, I've learn't to map properly now, I have a mind set these days that if you want something done, do it yourself.

I don't need a "cynical bastard" (your words, not mine, only making use of them.) to tell me I can't do it, for the last year I've learned enough to get back on my own.

btw Samon, design document's are only needed if you have and want a team, not if you want to do it alone.

If you're going to use my words, you should actually read them. ;)

The only remark I made about this mod is that having a long story isn't the same thing as having a good story. I didn't say it's something you can't do. I don't know the story or gameplay you have in mind at all, so I can't say if it'll suffer the same problems that many mods have of being too ambitious. The fact that you're doing it by yourself suggests that you at least have the decency to not waste people's time (worst case). Some of the most fun mods have been done by a single person.

At any rate, I don't believe 80-90% of the mods that are ever in production will be finished. Of the remaining 10-20%, probably around 5-10% of them are worth playing.

I can't say whether or not your mod will make it, or if it'll be worth it. But you haven't given up and you're giving it another go, and that counts for something.

I agree with you, 80 to 90% of mods do fail, and that fair enough and the story isn't mostly dialoge, alot of it is me writing how the areas look, the way I'm looking at it, if I do it right, it could be atleast a 2 to 3 hour mod, I wrote my mod in the limits of what HL2 can do, most just think HL2 can do anything...

btw, I wrote the first half last summer, college started and then was forced to stop for a while but I made time for it, the story is almost 100%, I say it's at 82% finished now.

anyway, I'm strong minded, I stick with my projects until there finished.
