Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys know a mod, which you can see bullets fly thourgh the air in real slowmotion, like The Matrix. Were everything, the world, is moving very slowly and you see tracers behind all bullets. I saw such mod for CS 1.6, but I havent found anything for source. Is there any, for CSS, HL2 or DoD:S? If so, could you tell me were t get it? I can already make movies because I got Fraps, but I wanna make some good movies with bullet time they would be sooo cool

I already found this:

When you are ingame, replaying your demo, you can slowdown time (or speed up) by using console commands.

host_timescale 1 (default)
host_timescale .2 world slowdown
host_timescale <1 speeds up time

If you used this along with some basic tracer scripts, you could probably make a cool movie.
But I didnt understand all. Like:

What did he mean with 'replaying your demo'

and

How do I need to apply some basic tracer scripts? Does anyone know how to do that, or give me a mini turorial how to do that?

Thanks everyone for reading this thread, I hope you reply. :)

I think they've implemented Bullet-time in HL2:Substance. Whether you can stomach the other crazy sh*t they've added to the mod is another matter.

(looks like while bullet time is in, bullet tracers are planned for a subsequent release).

You want SMOD. Google it. It has slowmotion with bullets flying around and somesuch, and the bullet trails distort the air a la F.E.A.R. There's also lots of room for editing whichever settings you want.

SMOD, thats the right mod! I saw the movie, awesome!
BTW, doest it support counter strike to? Cuz in my movie, I want to sort of follow the bullet, and then make awesome movies!

:)

Yeah, that should be possible in the demo editor.
You can make ingame demos of only a few MBs large by typing in the console:
record DEMONAME
And when you're done, just type:
stop

Now to edit the demo, type in:
demoui
And open the right demo.
You'll have to search for tutorials for it though :p

Okay, thanks for the help, but can I use SMOD in Counter Strike Source? Is that possible at all, or is SMOD only for Half Life 2?

Half-Life 2 only.

The name "Counter Strike" makes me shudder. Such a horrid impact on the gaming world.

Why do you want to use CSS anyway? Weapon models? Maps? Player models?

In any case, you can change all of HL2 to look like CSS with the aid of a few custom models.

Okay, well personally I like CSS very much so... :)
I recorded my first demo, and now im trying to edit it a little bit... how can I convert it to a movie? I searched a bit, but didnt find any really good recources... anyone?

EDIT:
When I am playing the demo, I found out that the bulelt time ingame isnt working in the demo. Instead of everything very slow, its kinda faster, why is that?

You should be able to turn down the speed in the demoui.

Yes, I figured that out, but can I play my HL2 SMOD movie with the bullet time? Cuz thats the only thing that doesnt work...

An I tried to add some text to my CSS movie, and inserted everything correct but it didnt show up... hmm i got to find some good tutorial ;)

Have you turned on cheats? host_timescale is cheat-flagged

Yeah, I did tried activating cheats before the demo runs... but it didnt had any effect. Its weird, because ingame, it does work with slowmotion, but in the demo in stead of slowmotion, the time goes faster than normal. That aint right isnt it?

But I shot some good movies, and know I want to convert the demos (.dem) to real movies (.avi or something, jsut to let me play it in any media player)

How to do that?

Well, first you type in the console:
fps_max 30
This will make the game record frames at a speed of 30 frames per second, ideal for movie files.
Then, you start demo. Now type in the console:
startmovie NAME
You will now be exporting the demo into .TGA files, which will be placed in the main HL2DM folder.
When you're done, just type:
endmovie

Now exit the game, and load all those .TGA files in a compatible movie editor and compile it into a movie.

Thanks again Beerdude. :)
Is there any mod expected on CSS for bullet time or bullet tracers?
If not, well I learnt how to make movies so I will amke them eventually :)

I wouldn't count on it, seeing CS:S is an online game only :p

Well okay, that wont be muck of a problem, but

Why is it that when I am viewing my demo with SMOD, the bullet time goes real fast instead of real slow! I want it to get slow but it doesnt work, even with cheats activated... why not?

Is this a bug or... whats wrong?

Thanks all

Probably a bug, the demo function isn't flawless I'm afraid :p (Even more, some demos that have been recorded before the November update (I think it was November) don't even work anymore :O)

Does anyone know a compatible video editor for .tga files? I cant find freeware versions

I didnt find any video editor. Anyone could help me finding a .tga compatible video editor which I can compile the .tga's to a movie?

I found videomach but it wasnt freeware... shareware... :(

And maybe anyone know some good video editing to?

Freeware is the best, I tried Windows Movie Maker but i didnt liked it very much...

Hey guys,

I found everything, VirtualDub for compiling .tga,
But when I compile all the .tga's to a movie, compress it and save it, it plays way to fast! Like the demo was 1.30 minutes, the movie is 30 seconds! Why is that?

Its not the compression, because I tried different ones and the length stayed the same.

Odd, the 30 FPS should give a very decent video :|

Are you sure you don't have anything in Windows Media Player (if you're using that) on that speeds up the video? There's an option for it somewhere... (I think you had to scroll through some options like an equalizer, a bass-optimizer and there was also an option to speed up or slow down the music/video).

No, WMP is okay, because if I open the .avi in VirtualDub, it goes @ same speed and I've never had any problems with WMP or modified anything so it isnt the problem. What can I do to get a good movie? Lower or higher the fps settings? Anyone can help? :)
