I plan on downloading and buying HL2 on Steam, but will that have anything less than the retail box'd version I could get at Gamestop? Can we run MP and mods with it? Is it buy by subscription or buy once and you have it forever? thanx!

It will be just like retail except you don't get a hardcopy of anything. No CD, no hard manual, no box. The subscription thing is something they seem to want to do as a special type thing with exclusive content and new content, but no news on that in a while. But, the default way of buying HL2 over Steam will be the onetime buy.

gooood, thanx man. I'm sure I could like...find the manual in some pdf file somewhere after the release if I felt like having that. I could also burn the files for the game on cds or a dvd so i have a hard copy if i ever need to reinstall. thanx man!

well, you couldn't burn them, but what you could do is get a new computer, then access your account, and download everything automatically.

Remember, steam bought games are tied to your account...

The data is stored in GCF files that are exactly the same on everyone's computers. You can backup your GCF files onto CDs so that you don't have to download them again if something happens to your computer (or if you want to play on another computer).

You can burn them, that's legal as he will technically own the cache file.

I would be pretty shocked if Valve didn't include a .pdf version of the manual with Steam copies.

Thats true, I forgot that most games, the ones that I buy, always have the manuals there too, and it always asks to install Adobe Acrobat and stuff...thanx for reminding me!
