Why would they be worried so much about few crashs in source, when hl1 has hangups in steam, and theres so many major problems in steam crashs or should I say mod crashes in steam that they dont seem to be worried about.
 
It's about priorities for the future. They want to make people buy the Source games, that's why they focus on making them as bug-free as possible, while they don't care as much for original HL issues, since pretty much everyone on earth already has bought that game. :)
 
Plus HL was never designed for Steam in the first place...
 
Valve want to make sure they will do as few patches as possible after the release for HL2, and concentrate on upgrading the technology in preparation for HL3

Steam can be fixed in time
