really weird prob in 3ds max 6

i have this really weird problem in 3ds max 6, when i goto use ne of the transformation tools like translate, rotate, and scale, instead of the usual arrows and such i get the same red lines that u usually see when using the selection tool, it doesnt really let me move ne thing so it is sortof hard to model like that, how do i fix it.

You must have accidently pressed your "x" key. It locks your moving into a specific axis. So just press it again and that should fix it up.
