Reason Gordon wears glasses

The creator of the storyline of Half-Life (And all the other Half-Life games) is Marc Laidlaw. Have you ever seen him? Image search him and look at him. He owns a set of huge ass glasses! And the glasses he wears and the glasses Gordon wears isn't too different. Could just be a weird coincidence, but I still think it's kinda cool.

Gordon's glasses have an advanced LCD or OLED display integrated with the lenses - that's why he can see the HUD without the helmet

I hate that, by the way, it would be much better if the grenades weren't reddish - it would be cool if you saw a grenade coming your way, not knowing whether it will blow up or not

The glasses are to make him look much more nerdtastic, rather than the run of the mill square-jawed FPS hero affair.

That's the red LED burning Gordon's retas. The grenades seem to be designed to flush out rebels rather than kill them, otherwise they'd probably by frags rather than HEs.
