I was thinking, Gordon is kinda a slave of the G-man. So far he's been doing what the G-man says to because he really doesn't have a choice.

The G-man never answers your questions, and just sticks you into situations (like being placed into City 17) with no background). Then at the end of the mission it seems like the G-man doesn't care about the human citizens and lets them all die (possibly Alyx and Barney included). At the end of HL2, I would be pissed.

Maybe the G-man serves a higher purpose that does not necessarily include the salvation of the human race, and is using you to achieve it. In HL3 you could start to learn what his plans really are (maybe the combine came to Earth because of something he did, and otherwise wouldn't have bothered). Later in the game you'd end up fighting against him (or his employers or whatever). I really don't think that HE can stop time, but maybe his employers can (and did at his request). Maybe he'd send a loyal Shepard out looking for you.

This may be completely wrong, but I really can't see you being on friendly terms with the G-man if he DID let your friends die, and I also can't see the G-man saving your friends (who don't seem as strong as you or Shepard) out of pity, unless he wanted some leverage against you.

Opinions?

I've thought about this too.

Gordon is, as you stated, a slave to the G-Man. All of Gordon's adventures thus far have succeeded, under the guidance of the G-Man, in liberating others. It seems inevitable that Gordon's involuntary servitude will have to be addressed. If Gordon is to attempt to free himself, how could he possibly stand up against a being who can manipulate time and space?

Between HL1 and HL2, humans have already begun to control space through teleportation. In HL3, I wouldn't be surprised if they achieve some kind of control of time. With both powers harnessed, Gordon could equal the G-Man in power.

Regardless of the specifics, I believe the G-Man will at some point be surprised by Gordon's actions, though he may not be directly challenged. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

The combien came to earth because they became aware of us when we started invading xen and basically saw us as a threat. So they invaded and enslaved us like they do to other races...such as the synths.

No i dont believe he can, it was either the singulatiry collapse or h just stopped it for gordon whilst everyone went on normally

but I really can't see you being on friendly terms with the G-man if he DID let your friends die, and I also can't see the G-man saving your friends

Well i doubt he really cares about alyx and co, and plus who is to say theyre dead :)

Yes, and that must be when the G-Man will say:

"Well well, isnt this just like....ol' times"

hmm i think it would be hard to depict Gordan Rebelling as it's always in first person. Maybe someone will help you rebel against him or whatnot

I hope not, don't we have enough bullet time games already? I really don't think that would blend well with the gameplay. Plus I don't think the human race is really in good shape to research new technology.

I just kinda meant that your general objective would change from just defeating the combine or whatever to also going after the g-man. I've seen it happen in a few games. But you're right, it would be kinda difficult to portray, especially without any predefined mission goals.

You're right (I haven't actually played the game yet, but from what I've heard the explosion was pretty big). But they could be, and that could help set up the second game. Otherwise I don't really see the natural progression to HL3. Obviously you aren't going to destroy the combine, cause they're made up of dozens of systems and races (or so I've heard). Whereas this revenge story would answer more questions about the G-man and his part in this.

But then again, we'll just have to wait and see.

I hope that in Half Life 3 they figure out the telportation technology better and find a way to bring Gman to where they want him to be.

Then... Gordon can whoop his ass. =)

Thats one of the best theorys I've heard. That would definitly be an interesting twist. I dont know why, but I get the feeling that the G-Man is somehow helping you. Although he is very shadey, and may seem evil, he is really taking you down the right path. Perhaps.... Anyway I guess well just have to wait and see.

well maybe if Gordon actually ASKED a question G-man would answer? :P

no it actually wasn't. Gordon and Alyx were out of range of the explosion.
so there's also no proof that Alyx is dead ;)

Synths = Synthetic = not a race, but genetically engineered weapons
I'd say the gunship, dropship, and strider fit into synths, in addition to the synth/mortar synth

Gordon taking down the G-Man was my first thought about what HL3 might be about after I finished HL2.

How he would do that, I have no idea. But it would definitely be awesome to take down not just an alien, but an interdimensional being.

I actually think bullet time would work fairly well, given the physics engine of the game.

It's not something I think would work in well with the entire game but if you did fight g-man, having a weapon that could manipulate time would be invaluabe.

Actually, Dr. Breen said it would take down the entire citadel, which in case you didn't notice had Alyx in it.

I think G-man will give freeman a last mission in HL3 and 6then when he is done gordon will realise that G-man has been using him all the time and Gordon has doomed the human race.

hmmm watch the movie fightclub and wile you watch it you must think that brad pitt is g-man. if u saw the movie u will understand what i think i think :d .

^no. No. So so so stupid
P.S. guys it's not really necessary to do spoiler tags in this forum

mmm, G-Man is Gordon's Contracter "Open to the highest bidder", gman is like, a person who finds jobs for Gordon "A right man, in the wrong place, makes all... the difference" Remember the teleport, the Gman may of made, a different version of the combine teleport, to bring people "Out of Time" and did that, with, who knows who.
