Ever been in a situation where you face situations where people are involved, and suddenly you find that your facial expressions are a bit overblown, you breathe faster, your face grows hot, and you turn away to avoid eye contact?

I'm a nervous person

The only thing that has worked for me in past experiences is to hold my breath and focus all the energy there. My lungs shake a little and then I slowly put all the pressure off.

It's not working much, now.

Any tips for relaxing prior (or on the spot) to a situation like the one I described above?

hmmm... just practice and be more comfortable and at ease in those situations. Rehearsing things in your head, and imagining it happening has been a proven effective strategy.

Think of the best possible outcome to your situation, and follow a small guideline that your mind sets.

Pack a bowl or 2. You will feel a lot more relaxed.

EDIT: This post does not endorse the use of drugs, consult your local Erowid FAQ before any use.

poke yourself in the eye with a stick ..you'll focus on the pain instead of the anxiety

I used to get slight panic attacks at the thought of being sick in public places.
Just overcame it when I realised that there's no reason I'd be sick.

Actually I sometimes bite my tongue to focus on the pain and hope it goes away

But I'll go with Dan and Bow's advice.

Pack a vibrating "vagina" on your dick, and when you start getting nervous, turn it on. Can't go wrong, there!

That solves everything, Pitz.

But we can't all go around with vaginas, can we?

...

C... can we!?

Just don't tell anybody, and you'll walk into a room with guys with happy looks on their faces, with a weird buzzing sound. Just ignore it, and everybody will be MUCH happier.

I say bottle all of your feelings up until one day you decide that shooting everyone is the best solution. I will totally bake a cake with a file in it for ya while your in prison. Someone else can provide the soap on a rope.

There are a lot of breathing techniques one can do to concentrate or feel more relaxed. But to be honest, the best way to handle a situation is to control it. Depending on what type of scenario you're put in, you can always come out on top (or at least appearing to come out on top), enough so that you give yourself a big damn hug and a huge grin.

Tell us specifically what it is? Getting in verbal confrontations with coworkers, students? Public speaking? Girls?

Take a deep breath, slowly let it off, mentally tell your muscles to relax at the same time. Practice this at home or in your room or wherever, you can get pretty darned good at it. I did. I'm a nervous person too.

Smoke a quick doobie. (I'm just kidding):)

Big part of it is self-respect. Say to yourself;
"I can do this. I know I can."
If you seem professional and polite, the other people involved will feel more at ease, making the situation much more stressful. Also, crack a quick joke, even if it doesn't make them laugh, if it makes you laugh you're easing some of your tension. You might also get them mad at you, but you can fix that later.

RMOFL!:laugh: It's hilarious things like this that I still like having Stern around, despite having some irritating views on some things. Anyways, here's something I've had bookmarked just for such an occasion as this. Relaxation techniques Not sure how well this stuff will work for some of you, but give it a try.

Trufe.

Master the art of appearing correct. If you're good with your words, you can almost always be "right" even when you're "wrong".

Or, not right, but it's not too hard to finagle your way out of a situation in which you're in the wrong.

But i'd imagine that's beside the point.

Play out conversations with people in your head mebeh? Try to find the possible branches the conversation will take, and try to think to yourself how you'd handle each possible branch, and the next branch the conversation could take from there.

It'll help ****loads with your confidence. I mean, hell, maybe the convo won't take ANY of the branches you chose, but if you at least THINK you're prepared, you'll be a lot more confident going into a social situation, and confidence is half of what it takes to "not" be awkward and nervous.

Now that I think about it I've never really tried those methods!

Yeah, but how should I control it?

Students, girls, and public speaking mostly.

This is what I'm thinking of doing. :frog:

It was in jest of a thread DarkSide55 made in which he stole some locket or something from Maria Flores.

I would like it changed. :<

It comes with practice. What's important to remember is that everyone you talk to is made of the same carbon compounds you are, and everyone is inherently human. Don't take anything too seriously and never lose your calm.

Speak calmly. Never shout, but don't mumble. Don't be on the defensive- don't let someone bombard you with 20 questions. Ask a few of your own, or make general observations. Being funny helps.

Dress great. First appearances are critical and the way you dress is one of the biggest factors in how a person approaches you.

Be informed. The more you know about a subject, the more you can talk about it and carry on a lively conversation.

If it seems like a person has the same fears as you do about speaking and confidence, then all gates are unlocked if you play it right. Use your instincts to understand what the other is thinking- there will be a lot of people you simply cannot connect with, and there is no use to force it. Be yourself, just a sexier, more clever version of yourself.

Ever try just ripping huge ass? let all of your bowel gasses loose at the same time.

It helps.
