Release date news/speculation(again)

Well I went into my local Electronics Boutique and asked them what the latest is. Their computer still says April 17, but they told me that thats wrong and it will be May. They had being saying April since back in October.

yeah we also got some people thinking Feb, until Valve announces it they dont know jack sh*t just like us

They will have a little bit better idea than us. Companies need to be kept in the loop so they can plan shipping/marketing/displays/articles/etc. Although the info the game retailers are getting could be very vague, they will have a slight better idea than us what is going on.

eh that's a good point, but at the same time, unless it's EB's official new date, the info is suspect. i learned not to trust any information on release dates (for any game) unless it comes from the devs.

Amazon had completely wrong dates for shipping CS:CZ. So it may not be so true that these retailers are kept in the loop.

Well I had a dream last night in which I saw Gabe being dressed like a fairy. He was flying arund the globe, throwing copy's of HL2 to all the happy children. When he got to my house, I asked him about the release date and he told me that it's the 12th of january (2004). God, I'm so happy now !

even so, they are the ones making it. granted, you should take it all with a grain of salt... i'm 100% more likely to believe the devs than some store. the publishers can only control release date once game's gone gold.... well unless the dev house got a shit contract saying it HAS to be done by such and such a date.

I'd trust the computer more than what some guy behind the desk says, the information on the computer will have been put there by someone who has been given there information by VU. The guy behind the desk gets his imformation from the guy who works in the back, the guy who works in the back gets his imformation from his ass.

nothing against u Cunni, but i never really understood why pple come here and post about possible release dates after walking into an EB store and having a talk with one of them sales pple.. seriously.. i have been to an EB store and i can honestly say these guys don't have any more info on any game release than we here do..

in fact, us gamers here probably know more than them.. this especially applies to the 2 stores here in Brampton.. the EB pple do not know much about HL2.. i even got into a small arguement/discussion about the HL2 engine.. he was claiming it wasn't a Havok engine.. and even more hilareous that HL2 was not a DX9 game..

anyway, nothing personal.. just letting u know not to put much stock into what these EB pple say..

See, the first tiem I asked a EB worker about th release date, and then challenged his answer based on things I've read here, he told me "not to believe all those internet rumours" because the info on their computers was what the Game companies have told their company. And that time they were right, because that was when everyone thought it would be coming in October/November, and the guy told me "no way it will be out Oct/Nov."

I tend to put the most stock in what Vivendi said. Way back in June/July they said it would be delayed, and that turned out to be correct. So far the latest from Vivendi is April, so that is what I am believing until I hear something different from Vivendi. I started this thread because I thought SOME people might be interested in the POSSIBLE official release being pushed past April.
