This has probably been several times before, but there are key developments occuring as we sp... er... type:
The release candidate was sent to Vivendi on the 15th.
Today (09/27) it was revealed that several legit UK/AUS/NZ magazines are reviewing it in their next issue. We also now know PC Gamer is reviewing it as a cover story for their December issue.
So with that said, and God willing no VU bullcrap delay to 2005, lets accurately guess the release date.
Give an optimistic date, and a pessimistic date
Optimistic - October 20th
Pessimistic - November 15th
I'd say 10/20 the earliest because we know even in a best case scenario, Steam activation will coincide with retail release. Retail release wouldn't be until a few weeks after the RC is accepted and it goes gold since Vivendi would want to make sure all the retailers have plenty of time to get this in their weekly ads/fliers.
I say 11/15 at the latest because that is the sixth anniversary of Half-Life's release. Any later than that and VU is up to no good.
The game is done. We want to play it. The end.
