Not complaining, just commenting, but i noticed in one point of the video that the sparks still go through objects (the dumpster in the first strider scene in gamespy's vid). I thought they were fixing that?

Also, it's still that same crowbar... I thought they were changing it cause it looked a little bit low budget. I hope that one is still a place holder.

Oh and while I'm at it, Someone was talking about not using his arms to steer. You see his hands when he's holding guns, or throwing grenades, so it doesnt seem too different to me if you see them when he drives.

But apart from that, great videos!

How exactly do you make a crowbar look better? Just curious as to what you'd do.

well make it look bigger and stronger than a toothpick for starters.
hl1 crowbar was radical, it made that nice hollow sound when you hit the ground with it.

ok, you can type in that condascending, short sentenced style if you like. won't make you right though.

Hmmm....more nitpicking. I actually quite like the crowbar, and don't really see how/why it would be a placeholder. Oh, as for the hands, you don't see them when gordon uses door handles either, but who really cares.

If the crowbar was too big, gordon wouldn't beable to swing it as fast as he can.

it's the same crowbar from e32k3 that 90% of people on the forums didnt like, with a shiny shader on it. go look up the thread about it if you like.
i just preferred the hl1 crowbar where he looked like it closer to his face and so it looked bigger.

good point about the doors i guess.
but did anyone else notice those sparks?

:rolling:

How can you ppl argue over a bloody crowbar?

There's nothing wrong with it and I've never seen any threads moaning about it being 'uncrowbarlike'. (ps. please link me to this thread. I'm to lazy to search myself. You stated 90% of the ppl in it apposed the crowbar so its worth a look.)

Your basing your thoughts on a few clips of what it looks like. I'm betting when your ingame you'll actually love it and come back on here and beg for forgiveness

We know it's horribly pointless and trivial yet we still have months to burn before the game is released

I'll start a topic about the bad texturing on the cup that blows around when you get off the train. :bounce:

As for the sparks, I'm sure things such as this (as well as the overlapping shadows etc.) are on Valve's to-do list. As they're polishing the game at the moment, I'm sure these minor issues will be corrected, if not for the initial release, then in a patch. I wouldn't worry, no game is perfect, but HL2 is as close to perfection as games come, and the good points definitely outweigh the bad (UNDERSTATEMENT).

Omg I hate that cup! Did you notice that its shadow went through the train at one point! COME ON VALVE! WHAT YOU PLAYING AT EH??? :frown:

I'm not being pedantic it's just that 1 year ago they said they were fixing it..... on the "to-do" list. So maybe they just didnt get around to it yet, who knows

There must be bigger problems then couple shadows, so biggest and most important first then those smaller ones.

There'll be a hundred replacement crowbars made by the mod community when the game comes out. I know some people don't like that as a solution, but if Valve haven't changed it by now it probably won't be changed.

I have Cs and DoD fully customized because i simply do not agree with some of the decisions the developers make in regards to sounds and models. If i can change it, i don't complain.

It's the hardcoded stuff like deathcam in dod (cringe) that i complain about!!

He was joking about the shadows; I'm talking about the sparks, which stood out like a sore thumb in the 2003 videos.

Hmm....well considering the events over the last year, with the code theft and all, I'm sure these kind of issues are the last things on Valve's mind. I don't know, obviously I'm not trying to speak for Valve, I'm just trying to see their point of view, and it seems to me that after everything they've done, we should have another thread praising the game not arguing about insignificant details. Anyway, I'm sure it will all be fixed eventually.

Speaking of that cup, an the other trash there, I wonder how they simulated wind like that? It looks very nice.

And who said it is the same crowbar? You start with nothing in the game. Speaking of that, I wonder where we find a crowbar?

If you have ever played GTA, the ground has paper moving on around on it as well. They aren't really objects, just small animations.

Are you seriously saying that the crowbar needs to be changed into a more crowbar like crowbar?

Maybe the sparks thing is a problem with demo playback, rather than the game, I seem to recall them saying that demo playback does cause a few tiny problems. And that: "we never expected people would be doing frame by frame analysis of the demos".

How wrong they were ;)

Yeah the demos are still buggy. If you watch the buggy (as in vehicle :s) clip when its on the cliff edge and the rollermine hits Gordan, you'll notice that his armour isn't shown till he gets hit. Ppl think that you get armour from the rollermine when its simply a demoplayback bug.

I just assumed that (seeing as it looks like the case with all the videos, the HEV power isn't displayed until damage is taken. No idea why, but there you go.
There were overlapping shadows (electromagnet crane bit) and the sparks didn't really bother me at all. In fact, I sort of liked them in a nostalgiac crap way.

what exactly does he mean with sparks going through objects? i never noticed that?

you can see sparks through objects (discussed this in the Bug report thread long ago) especially noticeable in the Strider Battle scene.

Wes, they were going to change the animation and attack speed on the crowbar, which they have.. they werent planning on changing the model.

lol

Nice work there snark! I never considered placing a mini nuclear powered motor onto the crowbar.

I noticed that, and yeah, I heard they were going to fix that as well, but then again, they had to do some tweaking to the Source code after that infamous hack of the game. so it must not of been a priority. I wouldn't gets your hopes up anyway as Valve said the Source code is upgradeable. In other words, we will see a patch for the problem most likely

Valve say they are going to continually add features and upgrade the source engine as time goes by.. adding bells and whistles etc..
that sounds awesome I cant wait to see what state source is in, when competitive titles like Unreal 3 and Quake4 are released.
