Well I went cruising to gamestop today, looked around bought the new PC Gamer magazine, and I noticed in the back shelf there were some E32004 DVDs for sale.I checked it out and also noticed HL2 was on the back cover of this DVD.From there I asked the clerk if I was able to reserve a copy of the HL2 game,I was allowed to and upon buying the reserve,I asked when the game should be released...he said..... NOVEMBER :( >
Im not trippin about it that much, but i thought it was going to be released around september or something?Could it be?

They have no idea, dont worry.

edit:whoot first post in a another release date thread.

Never believe retailers. They know only as much as we know, if not less.

AFAIK, it's most likely going to be in September.

Is Gamestop Valve?

No?

Alright then, they don't know shite.

I was at Valve guys, and they were very positive about a summer release so I highly doubt we will see it in November, but if we do, I guess that just means more time for me to work on my mod before the HL2 release! I sure hope that isn't how it is going to be, because I want them to release the HL2 SDK already!

It hasn't gone gold yet, they cant know when it is coming out until then

For those who think retailers dont know more than us - get back into the real world.

I advise you to return to the Gamestop and promptly kill the employee who "helped" you.

That guy definitely deserves a slap.
Why can't they just say, "No one knows yet."

Retail stores DO get estimated ship dates, however, employees working for the said retailers know nothing more than the average joe.

Besides, all that information is available to the end user simply by visiting the said party's websites for information on the "latest" shipping date.

I'd rather they release the game... not the sdk

what?............

well the brilliant mofo at my gamestop today said "oh our vendor says not till 2005" so you can't trust anything they say unless perhaps they give you an exact day of the month perhaps.

The release date was given to them by the cleaner at VU Games.

Thats crazy talk. They rely on dates from head office, if that. Compare that to us, on the ball within 2 seconds of anything with the word "Half" or "Release" being posted on any news site.

Plus you cant take any of them seriously. You know they are just like

"HaY mR VideO gAme StOre man when is Hlaf-liFe 2 coming out?"

"uhh...what month is it? July? I guess......shit...November...i dunno...piss off..."

:dozey: I went to Gamestop today. There were those "reserve your copy" on the shelves, then on the box it said coming 7/1, ummmm okay.

Valve will never cheat the loyal bunch of half-life fans.the clerk just need to make some bucks by giving a fake release date.

That's the thing I don't understand, shouldn't retailers lie about the release date and say it's coming out earlier than expected? Let me explain: the guy at EB should say July or August instead of November, why? because the person interested in the game is more likely to pre-order on the spot as the game is nearing, or even come back sooner to the store. Am I making any sense? And I don't mean this for HL2 but for any game in general.

Why? Then I would just wait and pick it up on the spot :D

I advise you to enlighten us with your wisdom as to why some store clerk knows more than the community.

Erm.. yeah. I think I will clear this up..

For the most part retailers do not know more than us. They know the same as us. ie, when the game goes gold they will be informed and so will we. HOWEVER that means we know the same as them. Not more.

The main problem people have with retailers is that they PRETEND to know more than they do. Which just irritates me.... :(

Exactly, as already mentioned, this release date is completely false, which leaves no point in keeping this thread open for discussion.
