Route Kanal help!

Im stuck in an area in Route Kanal level. When I read the walkthroughs they dont seem to match what I am experiencing. Here are some screen caps of the room Im stuck at.

Its a small room after a series of (2) explosive barrels in a narrow hallway.

In the small room is a door on the left (which I cannot open - but can break apart only with gunfire - or barrels) a ladder which leads to a mattress, and a dead guy and some supplies. Across the upstairs plank are more boxes and supplies.

Now when I read the walkthroughs, it says "This is where you'll come across a small rebel outpost. Here you'll be introduced to a new enemy, the Manhacks. They're small, flying robots that use their rotors to cut you up. Take these suckas out with some help from your rebel friend and your crowbar. After dealing with the Manhacks, go up the ladder and get a medkit, HEV energy capsule, and some ammo from the rebel's sleeping area and head across the wooden planks for some more ammo and HEV energy behind some boxes. Go down the tunnel the Manhacks came out of and take out some more Manhacks."

Im not coming across any rebel help, or Manhacks. just a dead guy.

How do I pass this area, and why does my gameplay not seem to match up with the walkthroughs?

That guy ain't dead. He's sleeping. He's supposed to wake up when you approach. Maybe he's too offended by your graphics to even bother helping the great Freeman
Unless of course it's an illegal version, I'd suggest starting again from a previous save point.

what can i do?
eventually, what cheats can i use for pass over?

sv_cheats 1
then noclip...
buy the legal version, you'll have the same problem in more than 5 or 6 places if you don't...
