Rumor: Why Half-Life 2 Was Leaked!!!

Now this is only a rumor, but I heard that Valve purposely made it so that it was easy for Half-Life 2 to be leaked, so that they had an excuse to delay the game. I heard the game was NEVER ready to be released Septemeber 30th and that Valve only said that to hype the game up early, then they would delay it until it was really done. They needed to have a good reason to delay it, so they made it so that it would get leaked. Whether it's true or not I have no clue. People online who played the Beta all said that there was nothing there and that hardly anything was done. Some sites show beta screenshots with the "Hammer" engine still in place and NO textures on the walls. Again this is ONLY a rumor, but it sounds pretty convincing to me. What do you think of this rumor?

this'll just stir up a whole hornets nest, best not go there, besides its been discussed to death before

in a nuttshell, no way would Valve allow the uncompiled source code into the wild, it was worth too much to them, its probably worth very little now.
