You may have noticed that this forsaken section has been deleted. It had outstayed it's welcome. It was the most useless forum on the site. But it was not always so. Older forumites (ie, over a year old :P) may remember that it once served the purpose of this section; the speculation of the Half-Life storyline. It was once quite active and was a battleground of anti- and pro-Combine-on-Xen theorists (I was once, shamfully, the latter). This section is unfortunatly gone, as is the epic debates, arguments and flame-wars which it contained.

Let us remember this once great section.

Remember it?
Umm, those 'debates' were long gone since August. All it had was stuff about screenshots and some movie thing. I WISH there was a section for stuff like pro/anti combine and stuff. :(

Rumour and Speculation died a long time ago. We just finally buried the corpse.

Goodbye, old board! You served us... badly.

Good show, it was starting to stink of rot

Was it cremated? I'd hate to see the zombie arise...

Here, here. Let's tip our glasses to Rumors and Speculation, the precursor to our now beloved Singleplayer Mythology forum, for it was only when this forum appeared did Rumors and Speculation begin to fade out, grow useless, and ultimately become an unused vestige of the Half-Life 2 forums. Singleplayer Mythology did what Rumors and Speculation had done before it, making RaS obsolete.

Here's to Rumors and Speculation. I will miss you, board. I will miss seeing your name as I scroll through the forums, even though of late I had looked on you only with fond remembrance, but would never go and look inside, because no one wanted to read or discuss the feasibility of a Half-Life movie.

By the by, what happened to all the archived posts in there, Samon? Who knows the wealth of knowledge that was to be tapped from those old threads; they held all the old theories and debates of yore.

Munro delete them >_<

 To Rumours and Speculation, I hardly knew ye...

I think that it's good it's gone though, the singleplayer board is definitely a long going forum, I just hope they don't delete my favourite hang out on this site :(

Now, onto more important things:

Okay, I give up. Now that t RaS is gone, where do you think those people will post now... We MUST protect the Singleplayer Mythology forum for Our OWN good!

I meant, where will the people who posted on RaS go now, because there were <bad> people there.

I imagine they will crawl under a bridge somewhere and shun the daylight, muttering about their cast picks for the Half-Life movie, which include Christopher Walken as the G-man and Bill Cosby as Eli Vance.

HEY! Cosby as Eli, is an awesome Idea!

But hopefully, they WILL go under that bridge, the one that collapses in EP2!

"These kids today! With their shooting and their rebelling and their quantum-mass-spectometers! Making cascades and shootin' officers, why, they don't know what the JAZZ is all ABOUT!"

...

OK, that was crap. Go back to your business, guys.

Ohh, My superior memory skills persever again!!!

Now if only I could remember the number for 911

Which begs the question of what anti-mass is.

yes, but how do you utilise antimass when just about everything has mass?

If I remember correctly, a spectrometer measures wavelengths or something, so maybe the Anti-Mass Spectrometer measures wavelengths of mass. They overloaded it when they put the 'better' sample which might've had a greater mass, to great a mass for the spectrometer. It probably ran on some new kind of energy, or exposed the crystal to rays which caused a catasrtophic reaction, opening a rift in between Earth and the border world Xen. This bunch of teleportation lured the combine who (I'm presuming) were looking for the key to teleportation, so they took over Earth and then brings us into HL2

Theres no such thing as an anti-mass spectrometer, a mass spectrometer measures the mass of atoms in their vapourised state.
Theres no such thing as antimass either, unless you assume that to be antimatter, in which case there is still no such thing as antimatter can only be artifically produced, but as soon as it comes into contact with matter they are both annihlated.

mmhmm

Suspension of disbelief?

There's no such thing as a houndeye!

There's no such thing as a Hunter-Chopper!

Did that stop you from playing? I think not!

There ARE such things as Spectrometers, I was just putting what I know about Anti, and Mass, and Spectrometers together. Then I just made a theory about what happened.

Maybe Valve should research science more before making a game based on science (or we could just let them use a little creative licence like they already have).

Read what i said first before replying next time.

You misunderstand. It died long ago. We simple shot it in the head and ended its zombie unlife.

Dude, I said THE zombie. Not A zombie. THE zombie.

EDIT: For me, rumours and speculation was the 'bad', abandoned side of town HL2.net is.

RESEARCH? HERESY!

*throws Lambda into a pit*

Yeah man, that's not what Singleplayer Mythology is for (haha, I almost just typed Rumors and Speculation...OH GOD I MISS YOU). SPM is for throwing out baseless theories supported by flimsy circumstantial evidence, if any.

Research...you just don't get it, man.

*shakes his head*

Bah, technobabble. I watch Star Trek. Half Life is a breath of fresh air after that shit.

Personally i draw the line when people start trying to rewrite the laws of physic/make their own up.

I would only draw that line if they were attempting to present it as fact.

I was kidding. I like Valve use of creativce licence.

As long as they don't make it Star Trekky.

"Shoot the lazey bit to blow up the teleporter," is much better than:
"Inverse the phasyon array to depolarize the Combine particle transmittor!"

The last one is better, since it's closer to Freeman's profession :smoking:

"Resistance is futile":borg:

Heh, yeah.

Oh, Piers, you were right, I apologise for misreading.

Valve does a great job with their creative liscense, I say 'Keep up the good work!"
