San Andreas Problem

Just got San Andreas for the PC, installed everything ok but when I come to try run it I get a brief black screen the it goes back to Desktop...

Im on Windows XP Home (SP1) and graphics card is x800 XT PE using cata 5.5s, DirectX 9.0c

try catalyst 5.6, i don't know more then that. sry

ok for some weird reason setting it to run in Win 2000 compatability mode solved the problem, although there are many many things that causes it to crash - buggy game. :/
