"The train wreck that is the 360 Japan Launch continues. Unloved 360s consoles collect dust, and retailers are unable to return those unwanted Xbox 360s to Msoft due to contractual obligations. To cut loses and cover their arses, stores are left with no choice but to offer discounts. The originally 38,800yen (about $350 US) consoles have been lowered to 18,800yen (about $150 US) with Internet Service Provider contracts so that the shop could get some kickback money from the IP. And this is what, four days from launch?

Eds Note: While this style of pricing is common in the US, electronics stores in Japan tend to do this to move inventory they cannot sell."

boy this launch sounds worse than the first one

I thought it was going to hav some suscess for pure pop culture

I should buy plane tickets to japan, buy a whole load of X360s, and sell them all here.

That would be a great idea, if it weren't for region encoding. :D

different taste in games, they'd rather save their yen for ps3 , they dont like microsoft, there's no games that appeal to them

could be a number of reasons ..but whatever the reason, Microsoft is marketing this badly

ouch I wonder what that means in terms of actual units sold

edit: ..oops didnt read through the article ..41,817 sold in 2 days ..that's less than half of what the original xbox sold during launch

in 2002 when it launched in japan 120,000 units sold on launch day but declined to 10% that number 2 weeks later

Maybe because they(360) suck ???
lol.. So wait.. the 360 is a GROUP OF PEOPLE now?
What the hell have you been smoking!?:D

Wow... Thats a very weak start for Microsoft. Like its been said, it's been badly marketted... no RPG's for those crazy Japs :P

Meh, I'm not really surprised, as said, Japanese have VERY different tastes in games from Europeans/Americans, and thus, it was pretty much bound to sell badly over there imo.
Sony'll probably win this console-war sales-wise yet again, but not surprising imo.

I love my XB360 tho, think it's a great console.:)
But I'll definitely be getting a PS3 too.

Microsoft just doesn't understand the Japanese market, no Japanese RPG's and no dating simulators = Dead console in Japan, sorry, that's just the way it is over there, besides, they are very loyal to their own brands, that's why Playstation 3 won't fail (At least there)...

I thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that M$ said they were shooting for xbox 360 to be in the lead by year 5 ...or is it that referring to xbox3?
