So I started getting into mapping last Friday and since then I have learned quite a bit. Anyway this is the basement of an office building for my single player map. I am going to be adding a large reception area, offices full of combine and labs full of monsters. Its just for fun really. I want to start working on AI entities soon so I can bring some serious action to the map. The lighting looks a bit weird because I deleted all my light entities and Hammer used some default lighting. The only real problem I have is trying to find decent textures for the surfaces, most of the textures in HL2 are useless for my project. :(

What do you think?

nice work :D

try messing around with the lighting more

Nice, good first try:

- Lighting!
- Some things don't make sense, no one's gonna use a bathroom with seated toilets in a row without any kind of wall in between them. That would be awkward :E
Also the stacked archives don't make sense, there's a taller archive case too.
- Some textures have terrible stretching. Just keep them at a scale of 0.25.

I already mentioned the shitty lighting in that I deleted all light entities so Hammer used its own lighting.

About the bathroom that was the very last thing I done before taking screens so I still have to seperate each john in a stall. Also on the subject of bathrooms is there a toilet paper holder model and how can I go about making a mirror? It doesn't have to reflect but I need something that looks like one.

I know the textures are all over the place. Thats the one thing I really need to sort out.

Thanks for your comments guys.

Its nice to post on a forum where people are all "thats ****ing shit you gay ****** ass homo lolz!!11!".

Have to agree with PvtRyan in what was said...Lighting can often make or break a map and nobody either wants to play a fully lit map, or a completely dark map.

I also agree with you Monkey about a lot of the textures are hard to find...Sometimes improvisation works, other times not so well...

The ceilings are just important as the floors, dont leave them so empty, especially if your going to clutter the floor with props, keep it balanced for the eye.

Take a look at those toilets and ask yourself, would you take a shit on one of those?

Keep playing with textures too.

there's carpet in the bathroom :O otherwise not too shabby

if you type in 'concrete' in the texture brower you get concrete texture, type in tiles and youl find som tiles! youl find other stuff as all the search does os filter names, but its very usefull.

*GENERAL TIP
if your making a themed map for CS or DM, type in the level name eg. cs_italy, and it will come up with textures from that map. in this way you can keep your maps looking smooth and proffesional rather that awkward and disjointed.

thats my two pence/cents

This is a single player mod for HL2 so I can't use props/textures from CSS. I asked for way to import them but none of the methods worked. I could really use the props from cs_office for the next section of the map.

Very good work,as mentioned, the light is too strong, you really don't need so much toilets in such a small map......
