I noticed there are no children anywhere in City 17, anyone know where they are? I remember seeing grafiti of a combine soldier holding a baby, maybe they were taken to a combine something or other.

No one can reproduce because of the supression device thing, so no kids born for as long as they combine have been there. Not sure how long that is, but i presume all kids have grown up or been taken away or killed so that no one has to look after them as they are a drain on resources having people look after them. Oh and if there were kids in the game you'd get odd people killing them, including pets, which is why they are rarely/never in games.

Oh, just wondering.

I think they were taken to another dimension to be conditioned as slaves for the Combine. Kids are easier to catch and convince than the adults.

True, true.

And I guess the reason the Combine were never able to take Alyx away is because she had DOG. :D

They're obviously at McDonalds, in Ronalds hands.

Hmm, I think that Eli just hid her from the combine somehow...

Because depicting prodigous violence against children would probably land Gabe in jail.

I know, but they could at least give us an inkling of where they have gone.

Glenn's suppression device reason is probably good enough explanation.
True Canadian's explanation ain't bad either :)

When the citadel was first built all the kids were probably taken there to be reconditioned as Combine troops and had growth accelerants and indoctrinators and everything.

It'd be stupid to simply kill them all - why waste an impressionable resource?

That's got to be the explanation.

Children were actually in the game originally, and they were modelled to be placed in the children factory. But due to the suppressor and the chikdren factory being berefit of children it twas cut.

Ahh im so tierd of this.

WHAT GAME HAS CHILDERN IN IT ANYWAY??????????????

Does GTA have children`? NOO

If they decided to have children in it, it would be banned in most countries......

think logicaly, children in a game where you can shot zombies in half....dont think so.

You could easily put them in, as long as they were out of harms way. It wouldn't need banning if the children weren't abused.

But people would abuse them anyway . Even if you do what valve did and disable FF, people will make patches. If you put them behind glass or something.. god/ghost. The kids would be ****ed anyway.

Does anyone know of ANY fps that has shootable children?

I think the point is however, that Valve were going to put them in, but due to story inconsistincies they dropped the idea.

I don't know of any FPS like that.

i remember MAFIA had children in it in a beta build but were taken out on the full release.

maybe...but i believe they would eventually take the children out of the story anyway for reasons already presented.
its a headache for game dev's when countries take issue with stuff u as a game dev, did not intend for to happen.

They're all playing Soldat and CS.

HAH!

Nah, I think they were all just moved to City 13-And-Under.

As I recall, the original Deus Ex featured children. I never shot at them though, so I don't know if they were killable.

Dr. Breen says in one of his speaches "...when eill they turn off the supression fields, and let us breed"

There were children in SHOGO - there was one scene with a mother and a child as far as I recall, and the player had the chance to save them from the enemy fire or not. If the player saved them... well, you could still shoot the kid.

edit - lack of children in HL2 is explained in the very begining of the game when dr Breen is reading a letter from a citizen asking why can't they reproduce. Breen doesn't answer the question (talks rubbish instead ;)), but you can suspect that reproducing is forbidden for some reason :P

Doom 3 has demonic cherubs which are half-demon half-baby, as well as the infamous "they took my baby" fright-sequence.

So I don't think the reason games don't have children "so you can't kill them" is really very valid, after all, Doom 3 pretty much did it and it's not banned anywhere.

You could make an exception there though.

The guys rateing it got so scared they didn't get to that part.

There is no one who 'rates it'. The ESRB ratings procedure is a load of bunk, the people rating it don't even play the game, they simple watch a video of the game footage created by the publishers of the game that is supposed to include the most violent/disturbing content as well as content indicative of general gameplay; of course that doesn't mean it actually does.

Furthermore, the ratings for each game are determined by a panel of randomly selected people from a pool of people who are part of the comittee - but obviously this very changing of people could result in some marginal games slipping 1 rating higher or lower just due to who was on the particular panel.

i think they dont really have children in games because why the **** you want children in games? children are annoying.

I think it is valid.. Doom 3 "pretty much" killed kids. And they didn't kill it, they took it. If the playable character was able to blow kids away, it would be a MUCH different story. Church ladies everywhere are already throwing fights about "violence" in video games, and how it can lead to real-life violence. All they are waiting for is a game where you can put a bullet in a kids head and they will have a field day with it. That to me would be a motivation to exclude npc children in a FPS. Why would you want to kill a child anyway?

Adults are the root of the problems.. you don't see children commiting massive genocides, or nuking other countries.. the point is people don't want to see "innocents" being killed. If you want an example of why... search "Khmer Rouge" or "Nazi" on google.. tell me what you find.

But if you did see children commiting massive genocides etc, then it would be ok?

What about NPCs that are on your own team, wouldn't it be worse to kill one of them than to kill a simple innocent child? I mean, by killing your ally you're actively trying to stop the problem from being solved, whereas the child wasn't helping you anyway.
