I was looking through my dictionary and stumbled across this word

nihilism n. 1.rejection of all religious and moral principles 2. opposition to all constituted authority or government - 'nihilist n. - nihil'istic a.

Although the Nihilanth doesn't appear there, the word could well be use for a leader of a nihilistic movement.

It fits considering that Xen has Vortigaunts (slaves) and Alien Grunts (clones), both of which have been rejected by democracy the world over. If anything the story of Halflife is about defeating the anti-christ (Nihilanth), and Xen is Marc Laidlaws interpretation of hell (only guessing).

What do you think

Hmmm... Not sure I agree with you entirely there - but then what do I know? But yeah, Nihilanth definitely derives from Nihilism - has the same bleak, empty sound to it.

Someone brought this up once before, though they came to the conclusion that it meant that the Xen were a bunch of alien hippies, for some reason that I can't quite recall.

It would mean that the Nihilanth would rule with Tyranny or anarchy

If you listen too what ol Nin says it seems like a mistake for Gordon to kill him, I don't think Nin is the bad guy, he's just been forced to defend himself against whatever caused the whole Black mesia incident in the first place, whether that be the G-man or something else.

He looked tortured, I think... he seems to have had some kind of massive surgery... what with that weird implant in his lower body, and all...

DEATH eVADER... All I was saying was that someone once said that they were a bunch of hippies... I know what your interpretation was...

nihilistic is another, basicly a rebel, i always asumed nihilinth was the embodiment of a rebelious governing power

Yeah, that's my thoughts on the matter too.
But Gordon didn't really have a choice, because the alternative was Earth being invaded. The whole thing really looked as though G-man orchestrated everything, as a way of tricking someone into performing a hit on Nihily.

I think Nihily's surgery was a result of being an ancient guy, kept alive through life support. That hover-chair could be a wheelchair for giant flying space brains.

Maybe the Xen creatures are somekinda slaves of the Combine (and Nin is the leader or sumthing), and when the Black Mesa incident happens, they find an opportunity to escape...and on HL2, the Combine, worried about Earth's technology and firepower, decide to invade it....
