Singleplayer possible cheats?

Well i found some item/weapon cheats that i've been trying to get to work, but i can't seem to. Giving myself weapons such as "sniperrifle" "stunstick" and some others i found at (www.gamewinners.com). I get errors when i try them, the only ones i've gotten to work were alyxgun and annabelle (Father Gigori's Shotgun), theres a bunch i'd like to play around with on single player, if anyone has any idea how to get these to actually work, i would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Have you typed in sv_cheats 1 first?
