I used to follow up the HL2 story very close, but since the delay and the Source soap i stopped browsing sites/forums.

My question: What is going on at the moment?

What is Valve doing right now? Changing the Source code? Just working on the SDK?
Or simply making HL2 a bit better then fore seen? What is the latest news?
Is there a release date?
Please enlighten me :D

No release date. But the SDK is said to be almost done and will still come out before the full game.
There have also been rumours of a february gold date.
Other than that valve have kept very quiet and there is little other news that I can remember off the top of my head.

Last night I went out with an antenna while there was a thunderstorm going on and I picked up some very nice details about the releasedate...

In answer to your question I'd say it's a mixture of all 3, rather than one particular aspect given that Valve is a company rather than an individual.

What Valve working on

Half-Life 2
Day of Defeat 2
Counter-Strike 2
Team Fortress 2
The continuing Steam saga
Condition-Shudder-Cringe-Hurry the F**K up-Zero
HL2 SDK

On the specifics of Half-Life 2 i would guesstimate it's currently going through the bug fixing stage. All the models, animations, sounds, scripting, story elements, etc are finished. The game is either in it's, or nearing it's final form.

This is the time when they get those annoying bugs out. Ie, getting stuck on some parts of maps (physically stuck to the ground!), the buggy explodes and formats your computer if you hit a headcrab, Gordon yelling out "Funk my boobies!!!!!!`1111111one11!1 LoLZZZr" when he sees Alyx. Those sort of little annoying bugs that can really ruin the gameplay. I always thought the job of being a Quality Assurance dude was some kind of scam profession where you sit around eating Chicken schnitzel rolls all day, but no i was wrong! They actually do something worthwhile. Testing these games is a long and tedious process.

Of course i could be completely wrong, but from that news that the SDK will "SOON" be upon us i'd say it's a good estimation of where things are.

And of course this symbiotic relationship HL2 will have with Steam. Steam has to be working like a well oiled babies ass. I'm not entirely sure why an oiled babies ass would work well, if someone could put that saying into a context that makes sense i think we'd all appreciate it.

It's so they slide down the breech of the barrel easier

So Mr. Fusion are u actually a tester?

I think he was joking...

Either that, or he was trying to indicate, in a remarkably unsubtle way, that he is a tester...

Well, i'm a self-appointed unofficial tester of the unoffically released version of HL2.

But, i've followed more game development cycles than you can shake a dod shit covered stick at. I know what goes on behind the iron curtian. I make guesses and assumptions based off clues, discoveries and info fed to us ravenous dogs.At the moment i don't see anything that would outright disprove my rantings. Unless Gabe personally came on and said "Dude, seriously, stfu kthx?"

I'd be all like "looolol1!11"

To the guy that started the thread: All indications right now are for an April release date. But Valve won't tell anybody anything so who knows. Thats when alot of computer game retailers are listing as a release date. April. Man I hope so. Would of been nice to have Half-Life 2 through the dark Autumn/Winter months.
