Not sure if it is true or not, seems intresting but none commercial like:

Wii is expected to completely revolutionize gaming. Sony executive Phil Harrison has recommended that everyone who buys a PS3 should also purchase the new Nintendo Wii. Harrison admits that Nintendo has really done an excellent job on the console and believes that any gamer should have the system.

Yeah slightly old news. Microsoft are saying exactly the same thing.
It's because they're trying to push each other off the top spots, and using Nintendo to do it.

Nintendo is going to overtake the console market and revolutionize the generation after the wii with all the money they make.

The news was out right after E3. Here is the other thread. Both MS and Sony recommend the Wii. ;)
It will be interesting to see just how well the Wii sells. But what would be even better is to see a lot of awesome games for it.

I thought someone who works for Sony pushed over a Wii display or something, I was waiting for a video. :(

You know the old saying, "If you can't beat them join them."

Some of you remember how Sony kept saying, "That new controller is a joke, it's not going to be good for games", and were insulting Nintendo for going with this idea! You guys remember this? Several months ago when news of the controller first surfaced?

Not only do they now recommend the Wii, they even went as far as to copy part of the controller design!

God, This company annoys me greatly.

Go Wii!

People were saying the same thing about the DS. They never learn ;)

What the hell is going on? I'm stumped. Why would sony support their competition?

Because sony's real competition is xbox since they're both competing for the gamers that want good graphics (Unlike the wii)
If someone buys the ps3 and the wii, they're probably not going to go and buy a third console as well

Both Sony and Microsoft ahould have seen this coming ages ago, Nintendo were not exactly a company to boast about machine specifications and all of that stuff, but were more devoted to showing just what their machine is intended to do.

Add the fact that Nintendo will absolutely slay them both on price.

And a cow will fly over the moon.

You deny that Nintendo won't establish an entire new style of gaming with the Wii? The Gamecube wasn't a success because it done nothing new. The Wii will.

I was addressing the notion that Nintendo will "dominate" the console market. That rests on the assumption that it actually will be wildly successful, that it is readily embraced, and that people will get over their insecurities about waving their arms around and "playing with their Wii".

Nintendo may very well craft a new style, if they're successful. But don't think for a moment that it's going to so easily knock down the tried and true methods of the PS3 and Xbox. At least not the first time around.

You also assume that just because something is new, it's good and will be loved. Ignoring it's nature as a non-sequitir, people have largely shown themselves resistant to change.

Fair point, but as for the tried and true methods of PS3 and Xbox, the Wii's catalogue of games will still provide for the already familiar interface of a regular controller, like the new Smash Bros. game.

I still maintain that the price will help a great deal (no pun intended), because of it's affordability it will be the more appealing system for example, to parents who want a next-gen console for their kids.

The one thing that I'm never confident in with Nintendo is the third party support.

Well, I personally hold little stock in Nintendo's home-grown batch of games. Personal preference, mind you.

Your point about pricing is fair, but to be honest, I don't see that attracting a significant demographic. Most parents just hear their children screaming about <insert console name here> and then shell out the dough for it regardless. Otherwise it's like giving your kid the budget-priced Batman doll without the cool attachable weapons and voice-button. You will be able to taste the scorn seeping from little Jimmy's eyes on Christmas morning.

Nintendo 64 was fantastic, the controller owned and had the best titles out imo (Goldeneye and Star Wars).

Nintendo Gamecube was poor, it didn't have anything that appealed to me.

Nintendo Wii - woah. If someone offered me a PS3, 360 or Wii. It would definatly be the PS3 because I would sell it on eBay and buy 2 Wiis. :D

Listen to me when I say that the core 360 (currently $299) will come down in price immediately when the Wii launches, and be very competitive. If the Wii is $250, then the core 360 will be $250. Now I don't set the prices personally of course, but I have been watching this exact thing happen for longer than many of you have been alive.

So the price point is null here, and only affects the outrageous PS3 that has graphics that to me look much less impressive than the 360.

Then you can always buy the hard-drive later and then it's just as good as the premium 360 package. It's not a bad idea to have a memory card around anyway. In fact, you can go to 360 kiosks, plug in your memory card, and download a new car on PGR for starters.

Here is something interesting right here:

there is more on this here, with 'click to enlarge' screenshots of how it works:

I can totally understand why Microsoft are backing the Wii but i am surprised to hear Sony publicly taking this stance. I mean, with Sony pitching the PS3 at a launch price of up to £450/$800, it's unlikely that gamers will buy a PS3 in addition to their Wii when they could pick up a Wii and 360 (core - assuming that prices come down later in the year which is very likely) for the same price as a single PS3.

Let the products sell themselves / f_ck advertising, commercial psychology / psychological methods to sell should be destroyed.

In other words, buy what you want--let yourself be heard!

There is more than meets the eye here.
Sure, microsoft has a point when they compare the price of xbox360+wii with the price of ps3, but that's not their true intention.
The reason why microsoft and, especially, sony are saying "buy our product and a wii" is because they want people to think of the wii as "secondary". Secondary, in most cases, means inferior, less useful, buy after primary unit has been aquired.

Neither microsoft nor sony want a head to head battle with a competitor that is as different as the wii promises to be, and so they pitch the "staged" battle of ps3 vs xbox360 and want people to think of the wii as "something we can get later".

While this wont work on everybody (obviously) it is actually quite clever. Mindtricks like these are extremely powerful when properly masked.

.bog. - not impressed one bit by the wii

I Never thought of that, intresting. I think you're right.

Wait: Sony recommends the Rev - but the Rev isn't shite.
The Rev is pretty good - but Sony recommends it.

TIME PARADOX

Exactly what my song quote was saying. Its all BS.

But I like the Wii and everything it stands for...as long as the gameplay innovations really do follow....

If I'm getting any new console its going to be a Wii. PS3 and Xbox 360 not a chance in hell.

lol, this reminds me of republicans telling democrats to vote for ralph nader during the 2000 election

I really hope the wii takes off. The thought of 1000's of people playing Mario Kart and Smash Brothers online is a nice one :)
