I'm thinking of getting HL2 and I was just curious if the disc version comes with Counter-Strike? My friend said it does, but he bought it on steam, so I just wanted to make sure.

Depends on which one you buy. I suggest buying it over Steam if you want to be completely sure.

And you actually CAN play offline. Steam has a very functional Offline Mode for such moments.

I prefer to actually have to disks because downloading over 5 gigs is a bitch. Every retail copy I've seen comes with CSS in it. Mine came with a copy, my brothers came with it, and i got GOTY edition which came with hL:s and css. Just check the box before you buy it.

My Holiday Package didn't include CSS.

Standard HL2 here comes with CSS. The case would mention it being included. Going with Steam would be better though as you could probably get more for your money. e.g. DOD Source, Garrys mod as well.

Thanks for the input everyone. I Guess I'll just pick up the disc regardless because I do hate downloading big files... (Other people use this computer, so they'd complain.)

Well even using the discs the games are still downloaded from the internet. Well thats what happened to me.

Yeah it will still have to download the massive updates and there is no way to cancel them in the middle of it. grr. I had to wait 5 hours after I installed with the disks to play hl2.

Offline Steam rarely works and causes me a lot of annoyance
