(SPOILERS) Question about Andrew Ryan

I'm still trying to figure out why Andrew lets you kill him. I have some ideas but I feel like i missed something.

Ryan finds out that Jack is his son and like most parents doesn't want to kill his child.
Ryan also find out that Jack is on a non-stop mission to kill him, Ryan has defences but when Jack finds his way around them his potential actions are limited to:

1. Killing Jack.
2. Surrender/retreat.
3. Allow himself to be killed while passing on whatever lessons he can.

1, I've already addressed
2, would be an option for most but Ryan is a very "all or nothing" kinda guy (demonstrated many times in the game from the burning of his forest in America to the attemped destruction of both Arcadia and Rapture itself).
So we are left with 3.

Operational, it's thought that Ryan might have revived himself at one of the reviving thingies(which are meant to respond only to Ryan's DNA which includes him and yourself). This allows him to retreat while also choosing to die, teaching you in the process.

No, it's been confirmed that he did actually die dispite the Vita-Chambers. He disabled the one in his office, which you can actually find and re-enable.
