Ok i'm having a little trouble working out how the explosions and muzzle flashes work.

Are they animated decals?

I have been able to find the muzzle flash decal in the CSS.GCF but no explosion graphics.

Are they created by the source engine? Got a great decal artist who can make superb explosion graphics, would really like to see them ingame
 
So what file would we have to make for animated muzzle flashes or explosions?

e.g. a 10 frame explosion. Not sure where it would go, as i said, haven't been able to find them in any GCF's
 
I need to know this as well, I want to make some new explosions
 
It is a very simple particle system. The particles are assigned to different sprites (vtf files) So open up the proper vtfs and replace them with whatever you want. I dont know how you would go about messing with the particles motion paths though.

Could someone post how they saved there .tga's before converting them to vtf, and also post there .vmt of the particle?
It would help sooo much. :D

Grab the photoshop .vtf plugin.
 
How do i compile the .tga wuth the vtf plugin, like which option do i check or uncheck? I know the particles are vertex colored, soo they might have to be 8-bit alpha's but im not sure...
