On Wednesday, January 18 at 9 a.m. PST, GameSpot will premiere the single-player demo of Star Wars: Empire at War for the PC. The full version will hit retail stores on February 16.

The demo will feature five tutorials that lay down the game mechanics for Empire at War, as well as one galactic conquest mode map to put what gamers have learned to test. A sample of recognizable units will be included in the demo, with the full roster being available next month in the retail version.

Source.

I have heard nothing but great things about this title in all of the previews I have seen and I can't wait to try the demo. Maybe finally we can have a Start Wars RTS worthy of the title!

Why the **** are they releasing it on wednesday? why not on Friday?

good. something after my final on tues. excellent.

Very cool, thanks for the heads up, hopefully mirrors are put up asap

Cool stuff, going to try this game out. Not a starwars fan but the game sounds good.

Yeah, and it's impossible getting a connection. I'll wait one or two hours and get it from GamersHell or 3DGamers. Downloading the demo for Rainbow Six Lockdown in the meantime. That one is also released today.

Yeah, and it's slow as hell..
741 megaByte large demo..
I have a 28mbit connection..
And usually get speeds in excess of 200 kB/s..

And now I'm getting 5 kB/s!*Cries*

I hope someone puts up a torrent off this soon..

Edit: And now it SHUT DOWN!? WTF!!
Damn you GameSpot.. Daaamn you..

Wow, 30 hours left.

The file is 759MB big if anyone were wondering.

Ha! Yeah, I usually get ~900kbps at work, but its like 15 right now! That leaves me with 20 hours left.

Guess I'll have to wait for 3DGamers or the like later today ;(

This officially blows.

3D Gamers has it, but there's a waiting line. There are 66 people ahead of me .....

Just tried out the Rainbow Six Lockdown demo. That's pretty decent. The big downside is that they took away the semi-freeform the other Rainbow Six games had. There's just one path to your objective.

Ugh, I love how they don't bother update the homepage, but sneak it on in the background. Shame on me for not checking the demo section!!!

Still, at least 50 people in each queue...will try again at home. :(

Did the first tutorial just now. Looks good. I can't get the camera to rotate however.

do either of these work?

Ctrl + mouse wheel

or

ctrl + middle mouse button

Damn, Every site is loaded.
111 minute waits, long loads, 34 hour downloads...

:x

I'm getting a 70kb/s download speed from Filefront, so I won't have the thing done for nearly 3 hours, but I've got homework anyway. I really have high hopes for this, so I hope it doesn't blow.

I just completed all the tutorials available in the demo. Seems like a very nice game so far, I like how you can invade and take control of planets.
The graphics are nice, nothing groundbreaking but nice.

Going to try the SP mission later.

Damn it, I was downloading from Filefront, it got to 47% and died.

I didnt play the tuturiols, but I played single player and its pretty fun, seems like the space battles might get boring I dunno. I had fun with the ground battle. Huge walkers own, the cinematic camera is awesome too.

played a couple of tutorials so far
seems like a pretty good game
i like the cinematic view too
will have to wait and play sp to make my final decision

So does it play like the Total War games / Ground Control games / or regular every day Warcraft/Starcraft-esque RTSes?

And I'm just going to download it from Fileplanet, long waits... but they're reliable when it comes to your download.

I'll download it tomorrow morning when all the Americans are in bed, so they can't waste all the fileplanet bandwidth.

It has a bit of Total War with the map of the universe, it's a bit like Ground Control with the control points you have to take, and the (ground) action plays out like your regular RTS. It's a bit of everything really. IGN's latest preview gives a good overview of the game.
