Steam editorial on bit-tech.

I was reading old forums posts the other day (I was bored) and came across one saying "Steam only has 1gbps of Bandwidth" didn't it have 2.5 gbps before? Which gives you an idea of how much more bandwidth Steam needed when it was released. Steam has 4gbps of Bandwidth usually (It's 8 now because of the preload).

It's nice to see Steam being semi successful. Vivendi should've invested in it when it got the chance.

That's a good point, I didn't notice that before.

What's all this about a shaky start? Steam has always worked ever since the first beta came out for me! :P

If there is little or no price difference between the two, and the release date is the same, then many users will opt for the physical version, if only to avoid having to download 4GB every time you re-install your machine. However, if Steam undercuts retail or if there is significant delay with the retail version, there will be a definite incentive to get it.

Haha, he's clearly an experienced Steam user. Other than that interesting article.

Also, you're taking the piss if you think these peaks (see attachment) constitute a 10,300mbps bandwidth limit.

Actually steam has 10gbps now.

Japan will bring that speed to homes by 2010.

-Very interesting article. thanks for the link :D

Good read BUT....

"Of course, the real kicker will be whether or not HL2 is actually any good. If it isn't, Steam will be the least of Valve's worries."

Who in the world would even want to say that? Its not posible for Hl2 to suck. Its just that simple.

Indeed... *loads shotgun*

Actually gabe said somewhere (I belive it was hl2fallout) that they can get 10gbps when they need it.
