Alrighty, so, I've downloaded a whole scad of mods that look really entertaining, and I get home, install them, and then... I can't figure out how to actually play them. After spending some time digging about teh internets, I finally am able to surmise that, apparently, mods are loaded out of Steam. Correct so far?

Hence, my problem. Steam requires The Internet to install, and my computer that has Half-Life 2 installed on it has no internet connectivity. And it cannot be given connectivity. Therefore, I cannot install Steam on my computer, and, apparently, cannot play these mods.

Hence, question. Is there any way to a) play HL2 mods without having to use Steam, or b) a way to install Steam without using the internet?

Thank you.

Well, seeing as you obviously have a pirated copy of Half-Life 2 you can get the **** off this site.

That looks likely. HL2 shouldnt be playable without steam, so either you are legit but your computer makes no sense, or you are a liar, a liar, and your pants, they are on fire.

One can lay down one's coin for a copy at the store, and then obtain a copy that doesn't require the internet for use or a patch to bypass the Steam requirement, since it is frustrating when people make the assumption that everybody has the internet. I can't get on at home, I want to play the game... ergo, I pay for the license, and then download what I need. That's pretty much my only option until Valve realizes that a very large percentage of us little people can't get online except for work and school.

Sorry, even if I bought your story (which I don't), you need the net to login to Steam, and therefore to play the HL2 mods.

There are a tonne of other games that don't require this. Perhaps one of them will have a mod or two you can enjoy.

The simple answer is, "No." I'm not going to try to refute the fact your story sounds bologna, but there is absolutely NO way to play a mod without Steam.

And a large percentage don't have internet? Are you mad? Only the crazy don't have it..*or those in the middle of nowhere/poverty*

There is a requirement on the box for Half-Life 2 that states that you must have an internet connection to play. All you have to do is connect ONCE and then set it to off-line mode; after that you're home free.

Whether or not you're lying about having purchased the game - which we're all quite skeptical of, because there is no way you can legally run the game without Steam - you just can't play mods or HL2 without Steam.

Get internet at home. You don't need much, just enough to connect once and login to Steam. Dialup is very cheap.

Hmmm... strange... boy, I wonder if he maybe has a job somewhere that has internet access... hmmm... boy, that's weird...

I stand by my original opinion. By the way, you used too many periods above.. I would have used about half as many.

Well, duh,it is oh-so-obvious that you must have the net to download steam and to access all steam games.Everyone knows that!Pffft!
