Steam Problems!!!

I had a problem with steam that ment it kept crashing during its initialising period. this unfortunitly ment that steam couldn't boot properly. " no Halflife2 then for me for a bit "
I reformatted my partition with only HL2 and steam conponents installed on it.
Just finished instalation but steam wants to connect to the net to create another acount.
But i saved the previous account.
How can i get steam to detect the old account and allow my to continue using that account. If this requires connecting to the net this would be okay.
This was caused due to the latest steam updates released.
Can anyone give me some help in fixxing this problem?

dont rely on your computer remembering it for you, i made that mistake

I'm not sure If I understood your problem, but I can tell you that I made a spelling mistake in the username I picked, and it wouldnt let me change it.

Trying to change your username after you activate your account is not possible as far as I could tell.

Possibly if you send them money?
