Steam update=major performance boost 4 me

i cant believe it but the game now plays how i thought it would when i got it after steam updated,theres no other way to explain it as i havent done anything to my comp since then,it now runs fantastic with no slowdown :naughty: ,WOOHOO

Start Steam up when your not connected to the net and it will give you a window offering to start steam in 'Offline Mode' do this and then just select HL2 like normal.

The only way you would get a fps boost is if you don't have at least 512mb ram. I don't see why 30mb running file would make you get 18 fps with 512 or more..

I did this several times and always got the same result. I will try it now with the steam update and see if it makes a difference.

Well it looks like the steam update solved it. I now get the same fps whether steam is online or off. I spent hours with this yesterday and trust me, there was a big performance hit when steam was in online mode.

i like to put it as half of the ram the computer has. i've never seen drastical performance changes, but i do always gain some FPS here and there, especially on CPU capped sequences

The difference was 18 fps, 25%. Your car was not that dirty.
