Steam updates

hi i was just wondering weather steam updates its self automatcially?, or do i need to get on the net and start the updates.....because i have not been able to play half-life 2 in offline mode and error comes up...' steam-error This opperation cannot be conpeleted when stem is in offline mode.

updates are automatic. They occur when you load Steam while you are online.

As far as not being able to play in offline mode: that happens *sometimes*.
The solution is to load Steam while you are online so it can do whatever it is it needs to do. Hopefully you will be able to do play offline the next time.

I have found that this problem occurs if you try to play offline after cancelling an update...

All you have to do is be on the internet and start up Steam. Unless you have a game set up to not update automatically all the updates will download while Steam is on.

To make it plain and simple, Shut down Steam then Restart. Updates would occur after shutting down Steam then restarting. Guys have to make it so complicated....

so i right click it on bar on the bottom right and go exit and then double click my desktop icon to start it back up again.
