STEAM will not start....

I have installed, reinstall, and installed more times than I can choose to count. Steam opens after installation, then updates, then disappears into the void of the background process. Everything else is running excellent on my newly formated HD. Steam was a pain in the a$$ b4 but now it just sits quietly in the background, doing nothing... I kill the process and try again, nothing, just a happy background process that is Steam.exe using 17,000K of my precious memory. I would really like to play CS again for my withdrawals :frown: are worsening by the day.

I uninstalled Zone alarm and ran fixwareout and steam works fine now. (it wasn't a firewall issue though)

bloody hell, I came home tonight and steam has returned just as quick as it buggered off!

Just came to this thread because a buddy of mine has the same problem, and i have no clue how to fix it... Any one out there know a fix?
