I've had HL2 as soon as it was released and I haven't had this problem until now.
When I start up the game, the main menu shows up extremely dark and I can barely see the menu at all. I've turned my monitor brightness up, and managed to fool with the in-game brightness, only to reveal that the textures of the hl2 main menu scene appear black and shades of dark gray. This problem persists when I start the game as well, it's unplayably dark and the textures are black/gray. This problem does not occur in Counter-Strike: Source, however it does occur in the same way with Half-Life 2 mods such as Empires and Mestasis. I use a Sapphire Radeon X800pro video card.
Here's what I've done to attempt to fix the problem, all futile efforts obviously:
-Messed with the resolution and tried window mode
-Validated my cache several times
-Reinstalled Half-Life 2
-Uninstalled my Omega drivers for my video card and installed the regular ATI CATALYST drivers.
Has anyone had similar problems or have any other ideas as to how I can remedy this? Maybe I should try just deleting the half-life 2 folder and reinstalling that way? Or perhaps even reinstalling DirectX or something, I don't know. Thanks in advance.
Note: When I start the game, the loading screen where the main menu scene is shown blurry appears normal, but when the game is loaded, at the point where the blurriness subsides to reveal the scene, it goes dark. Not sure if that's helpful or not, haha.
