Stuck in Follow Freeman (possible spoiler)

I'm stuck in the place where the strider smashes itself through the wall and where are some garbage cans lying around in the street. I took cover from the building but i only have 3 rockets and two of those energy balls and they wont take the strider down. I have tried to throw those flammable barrels towards it but nothing. Oh and those scanners too but they seems to be like flies to the strider.

Keep running ahead (in front of the strider) and take cover in the building to the left. You should be able to continue from there on.

Well i was there killed the enemys and so on but i couldn't find that little gap that leads to the next floor until now. I saw outside that collapsed floor but I had no idea how to get there because the stairs were blocked so I thought that I must destroy the strider at any cost and then the story continues. Thanks anyway.

You can actually kill that strider if you have 3 rockets. Pop him with the rockets, the guy that (hopefully) is with you will drop a RL when he dies, grab that. Then I used those energy balls, whatever the alternate fire is on the SMG and a couple flaming barrels and that killed it. I too thought I had to kill it before I moved on so I spent a good deal with time on that level until I finally killed the strider with what I had available to me.

Whether or not you can kill that strider at the start of the level also depends on difficulty level a lot. It seemed best to me to just run for that room and take it down later when you have access to that rocket ammo box.

The guy with you indeed had one as well, but if you need to kill the strider right there then you are taking quite some damage too. Striders hit pretty hard.

That's probably true (regarding the difficulty). I played on Normal for what it's worth. Although, I did in fact run to the garage and play a lot of hide and seek with it, I didn't fight it in the tunnel, that'd be instant death.
