I tried to take a screenshot to help describe where I am, but it's not working.

I have gone all the way to the bottom of the huge glowing shaft generator thingy. The narrator says I have to disable the dampers. I pressed a button at the bottom, then went up two ramps to to buttons and pressed them both; nothing.

I have covered every square inch of the place. I have walked around in here for hours. Cannot figure it out. I'm sure it's something simple/stupid, but I just don't get it.

I personally dont know at the time what your talking about.

@Headcrab Pie: He's talking about the HL2/EP1 mod Minerva. It's rather good. In fact, the man who made it was hired by Valve.

@mooreted: Please provide more detail as to your situation. How far into the game are you? Are you still on the first chapter? You're awfully vague about the whole situation and you aren't jogging my memory at all. Some more detail and screenshot would help. Headcrab Pie is trying to tell you how to take a screenshot, but not really in the best way.

Look around where you currently are in the game and and press F5 a few times. This takes a screenshot of what you're currently looking at in the game. Try and get some landmarks and that in the shots. A pic of a wall will help no one. Then close the game and the pictures you took should be in the mod's folder. Upload them to www.imageshack.us and post them here.

Okay, had to jump through some hoops to find and convert the screenshot, but here it is:

I remember that area, but not what you have to do. Sorry.

...wait. I don't remember the gravity gun being in Minerva.

Oh god, as soon as I saw this thread I knew this is what it was going to be.

Seriously, grenades? I just figured it out by accident the first time.

Very good mod, enjoy the rest of your play through! As Riom said above, Adam (I think his name is) now works as a mapper for Valve.

Yeah it's awesome. It's more like a whole new game than a mod, though I'd like to find the narrator and blast him with something. God, what a jerk!

Also, Minerva is actually the sequel to a Half-Life mod called Someplace Else (Google it). It's also rather good. It takes place entirely on Xen.

If you'd still play HL1 (some people seem to need to wait for the Black Mesa mod, but I still think HL1 looks fine) I recommend that too.

Another good HL1 mod is Point of View (PoV) in which you play a Vortigaunt. It's rather well made and features an interesting story. A nice twist is that you can only use Xen weapons. Unfortunatly most of the new things are just a variation on creatures that explode, but they're still fun, even if a little variation would have been nice.

Pieces Like Us was good too (though I never finished it due to my PC getting wiped).

I've heard good things about Azure Sheep, though I never got past the first level of that.

Awesome, thanks. The Orange Box is the best game purchase I have ever made.

I'd like to see more Portal stuff. I really like Portal.

As far as I know the two big mods for Portal are Portal: The Flash Version Map Pack and Portal: Prelude. I played them both but didn't finish either. Good enough, even though Prelude can be very fiddily and annoying at times, and sometimes just plain rediculously hard.

Great, thanks. I hope I can finish them. Some of the advanced maps were fun, but a pain.

I think it would be cool to have a Portal combat kind of thing. You could do all kinds of mayhem with portals.
