Stupid downloads

I'm sick and tired of waiting 10 minutes to join a server while it downloads pointless crap, just so I can play 10 minutes of CS. How about an option to filter out servers with pointless downloads like "noob.wav" and crap like that. Or an option that makes the client tell the server that you already have the files (even though you don't) so you dont have to download them.

Same here, downloading useless crap is pointless to me. Thats why I just pick a server without any sounds, and put it in my favorites, and just play that server.

There is a command to disable it, "cl_allowdownload 0"

Doesn't seem to work though, I'm gonna try putting it in my autoexec.cfg

Exactly, I play on just one server. Besides there's a direct correlation between the dumb .wav files and the amount of idiots on that server.

These sounds do get annoying. Lately, CSS has been crashing because I'll join a server that'll have one of those lame "quake" mods or whatever and it'll download the first file and stay in a endless loop until I click cancel.

I also hate the way you have to download the same files everytime you join a server even though you already do.

Heh... I agree. Who the **** wants to listen to quake sounds in CS anyway? Are the admins really that retarded to think that people actually want to hear lame sounds while they're playing?
Oh well. I only really play on a few servers most of the time, and none of them have the stupid sounds.
