stuttering in demo

Hi, I just recently bought a Radeon 9250 256mb 128 bit PCI videocard and decided to download the HL2 demo. it plays good but often stutters once in a while and then stops and turns smoothe again. Sound also loops often when it stutters.
I can't say that is the level of action because it stutters but also smoothes out in like the same scene.

My specs
3.0 ghz p4
512mb ram
256mb Radeon 9250 128bit

Try putting the video settings a bit lower (Lower textures, lower shadow quality, lower resolution)

And have you recently defragmented your computer?

Yeah I tried setting it to low but no change really. And yeah I have defrag recently. Do you think adding more ram would help? (I forgot to add that most of the stuttering occurs around the beginning)

Oh yeah that happened to me often when I had 512 MB RAM. I've now got 1 GB RAM, and now it happens a lot less. But defrag also really helps a lot.
