I would say worldwide.
.The destructive pulse forced a damper on the entire network of linked Citadel reactors. Thus, for the time being, I believe that all Combine portals have failed completely, as well as all communication systems based on that technology.
Did you not notice that the entire chapters of Route Kanal and Water Hazard are about a resistance underground railroad for the specific purpose of getting refugees out of the city?Getting in and out of a city unautherized is supposed to be imposable.

Valve has said it's a big thumper to keep the antlions out of the city.
Valve has said it's a big thumper to keep the antlions out of the city.
And besides, at the start of "our benefactors"(?),
in the caverns, when you look down, those things moving up and down, beating the ground, are thumpers.
If you have trouble believeing this, then why don't you just play the game?
You've been called on this twice but it deserves to be said again: no they haven't.Valve has said it's a big thumper to keep the antlions out of the city.

In fact Alyx has a line in Lowlife once she spots dead antlions. If I recall correctly, and maybe I don't, she mentions something about the Combine forcefields being down, but she doesn't say anything about the citadel being a 'big thumper'.
Possibly, but does Valve really HAVE to confirm everything? Can't peaople have they're own theories and ideas??
And judging by the fact that the antlion thumpers you see, work the same way, i'd say the foundation of the citadel IS one big thumper.
Would they really make something so big, just so that it would beat the ground for no reason?
And couldn't the things you see in the reactor room, moving up and down, be the very same things that you see at the start of "Our Benefactors"?
Why can't it be possible for the "thumpers" to stretch the entire lenght of the citadel, so that they could have more mass to hit the ground with and thus creating stronger vibrations, to keep the antlions out?
And i'm spent...
