I've just been fooling around with the model viewer and I spotted something I never have before. I thought the Synth looks rather like the headcrab, 2 front claw like legs, 2 hind legs, and a similar body.
Not sure if any of you can see it?

Maybe the combine designed the headcrab, similar to their synth design?
Or maybe they modelled their synth on the headcrab.
Actually all the insect like alien creatures seem to have 4 legs, resembling claws eg Ant-Lion

I'm probably thinking too much again...

The Headcrabs are native to Xen while the Synth where a race of self-replicating machines that where conquered and enslaved by the Combine. Like us humans.

I doubt it. The Crab-Synth was meant to be some unstoppably strong war machine. The Headcrabs evolved naturally on Xen to make the most of their agility.
The Combine have better creatures to evolve their Synth out of...

You're thinking too much :P

Look just cause he hardly moderates anymore doesn't mean you can insult him

:p

Anyway i think its just the general style that makes them look similar, probably nothing more to it.

They aint machines, synths were organic TILL the combines captured them and altered them into different things e.g strider and gunships. Theres many types of synth, so they are more of a varied/adapted species rather than race.

Ok, my bad. I should've noticed the big compound eyes on the Gunships.

Yeah I suppose it's just Valve's style of creature.
Just thought the combine could have acquired the headcrab through the conquering of Xen and designed one of their war bio-machines (A Synth) on it at some point.

Also, didn't mean to insult Synth, honest

Although most people cling to it as if it came from God's own mouth, I still have yet to be shown definitive evidence that Xen has ever been under Combine control.

Interloper looks remarkably like the interior of the citadel, some architecture of it is the same. Factories making Grunts, conveyor belts, Alien slaves in the role of the stalkers in the citadel.
(They are slaves, they have a collar, unlike the freed vortiguants).
Xen has dropships for alien grunts, like the Overwatch has dropships for overwatch troops.
There's more too, I'm sure.

And I think there is a relation between Xen and the combine. Otherwise, what was the point in Half-Life 1?

anyone have that picture of 2 combine soldiers celebrating on top of a cliff and from below they dont see an antlion climbing to surprise them (was a concept art)

Exactly, its all speculation, speculation that has many facts to back it up with. If you wan't definite proof well it isn't there, because the chances of seeing a Strider and Gonarch playing together while Breen and Ninhiloth say, "We are the combine, and we approve this message." Are pretty slim.
