Hello,

well, I can remember, that there was a tutorial for Audacity with (alleged) quite good voice results anywhere on any editing website. But I am unable to find it anymore.

Does anyone know this tutorial or any other guide?

I tried it with a vocoder some time ago, but it never really sounded like a combine.

Thanks for replies!

Sorry, but there was no sound forum. I didn't know, where to post it, but maybe a moderator could move it into another (more suitable) forum.

I think this one is as suitable as any forum.

The program Valve used was a Adobe sound editor that?s not sold anymore, but the files they used to add effects are still in the GCFs.

Thx for the info.

Well, and what are these files called (file extension) and where they can be found in the gcf files?

I think it should be possbile with every sound editing program (Audacity included).
And I really know, that there exists a tutorial for it, but as i said, I can't find it anymore.

I'll talk like a Combine for you:

"YOU, CITIZEN, PICK UP THAT CAN!"

All you really need to do is apply some kind of distortion to the waveform (a VST guitar-amp sim plugin would do quite well), possibly compress it a bit, and then I'd probably smack a high-pass EQ filter on it at somewhere around 200 hz or so.

This is actually a gcool idea, I'd be interested too if someone could post a way to do this, it would be great for mod developers and just for fooling around of course :)

Source sounds.GCF
GCF:\hl2\sound\vo\batch converters
BCS files

What do I do with the .bcs files? I'm a noob when it comes to sound editing n stuff. Can I make it work with Audacity?

Practice.

Not to sound cocky or anything, but I do sound effects really well. I can do an A+ poison zombie or zombine when I am in the right mood.

When I get bored when I am doing stupid shit, especially during school I'll make weird HL2 sounds, people think it's weird, but of course the majority of my class knows me and just enjoys it.

I can do the antlion idle noise.
I can also do some hunter and strider sounds. Obviously the more mechanical it is, the more difficult.

When i get my pro mick back I'll record some mp3 for you guys.

You never stop being interesting, do you?

I can do Combine voices with out any programs.

They don't sound electronic enough though.

Thats what the .bcs files in the source sounds gcf are for. One adds that metrocop static while the other adds the combine overwatch lady announcer effect (echo, etc).

:) The noises turn the ladies on.
Haha well not really, although it seems to ammuse them, when I make the Antlion idle noise the chicks in my class refer to it as "the mating call" it seems to entertain most people.
Sometimes I'll even jokingly hit on people with it, make the noise and they'll start chuckling and I'll say "Yeah, pretty sexy huh?"

You have far too much fun.

Will have to observe an Idle ant lion sometime, they never went idle when I was around.

How Do You Use The Bcs. Files?

You need to download a batch converter, preferably the Sonic Foundry Batch Converter, load your recording, add the .bcs file and convert it. This will add the effects found in the .bcs.

Oh, well that's what the sound is labled in the files.
You would recognize it, it's a clicking noise, much like the Predator's clicking noise except more high pitched.
