The annual tradition continues with this year's Scream Fortress VII event for Team Fortress 2! Despite initial fears that this year's event would be rather limited compared to previous years thanks to Valve taking something of a backseat regarding its development, Scream Fortress VII is absolutely packed full of new Halloween-themed goodness...or badness? Anyway, let's take a look.

The update features not one, but four community-created maps, including a spooky version of Gorge, Hellstone, Moonshine, and Sinshine (no relation!).

These maps are joined by "The Gargoyle Case", a Halloween-themed case featuring 19 cosmetic items. Now let's be honest here, the key draw for every Halloween event is the fun gimmick Valve attach to the newly introduced maps. This time, ordinary contracts have been transformed into "Merasmissions", tasking the player to complete certain objectives to receive Halloween-themed item drops and a chance to grab one of the new cases. A "Scream Fortress Gargoyle" will keep track of the amount of Merasmissions completed by the player, leveling up as more and more objectives are accomplished.

Two new taunts have also been introduced - "The Broomstick", which I'm honestly not going to bother explaining, and "The Soldier's Requiem", which will see the Soldier kneel on the graves of his fallen enemies and gleefully smirk about it. While all of the older Scream Fortress content is also back with a vengeance, the Mannpower Mode has risen from beta-hell and has now been released as a full gamemode! The mode now features an all-new map, "Hellfire", and three new power-ups; the damage over time dealing "Plague", the strengthening "King", and the disruptive "Supernova".

While you wait for this packed update to download, be sure to check out the accompanying comic, titled "Gargoyles & Gravel", which features cover art as close to a TF2 X Dota 2 crossover we'll ever get! Happy Haunting!
