No, no one knows...but when you shine a flashlight in a dark room in Half-life 2, will you be able to see dust in the air in front of you....and the flashlight will cast dynamic shadows? The dust would be so cool. Any news on the flashlight? The one in the original HL sucks...especially in multiplayer where it lags.

I don't mean to be a smartass but you answered the Q in the first 4 words of your post.

Edit: Although yes, the dust would be an amazing feature. I love in movies whe you can see the whole flashlight beam in a dark dusty room. Or even in the rain.

You've got to admit - he's speaking the truth.

The flashlight will be the most realistic of any game to date. In fact, the flashlight is an actual light that will come in the retail box.

:D

Like a gun con! When you shine it on your pc screen it shines there in game. Wowww.....

Maybe

Yes but not as nice as Doom 3

I wish you doom 3 fan boys would shut up aready. Your arguements of "So & so in HL2 will be good, but Doom III does it better" are getting rather old.

G-Man, he speaks the truth.
I'm not a big fan on HL2, but face it, it has a better lighting engine then HL2. (Unless Valve is hiding something)

I think Valve is still hiding some of the best stuff.

Ooo.. Doom III has better lighting, therefore HL2's story, animation's, and everything else that make it great are worthless. You forget, some gaming guru's claimed HL as the best game of all time, HL2 can only be that much better.

Doom III is nothing but a bench marking tool for new hardware that
they decided to slap a price tag on and sell to the horde's of people who don't know any different.

It is not an arguement... I want HL2 more than Doom3 but if you think HL2 has better lighting you are kidding yourself.

I remember reading that yes, there will be dust particles in the game. Unfortunately I can't remember where.

Very well, you claim DIII will have better lighting, ok fine. Do you really need to throw it into every conversation that debates how nice certian things will be in HL2?

Now if you were to say that the lighting is just as good then you'd be speaking the truth.

:bounce:

No, but when the subject at hand (the flashlight) is itself a tool entirely based on lighting... the lighting technology is a valid point of discussion.

huh? Having floating dust is common sense? or what?

err, i hope this isnt turning to a D3 vs HL2 thread, we had like a 100 page one of those remember?

And anyway Stalker will have a better flashlight than both of them.

/me pours some petrol on the flame war fire.

If properly implemented, a light-gun flash light would be cool! (you'd need a third arm to point it, etc etc) I wouldn't want this in hl2, but it could be an innovative addition to a booth-style arcade game. Where it would be really cool I think (imagination is off and running, apologies) is in a house of the dead style game that puts players inside a large cylinder, a 360 degree screen that projects a floor-to-ceiling view. From the center of the ceiling of the cylinder would hang a light gun and a light flashlight. The flashlight would illuminate the 360 screen view with dynamic shadows. Hell, I'd pay to play that once or twice.

I drew a picture, too:

Hehe, that would be cool. Now, I don't give a poop about these H2 vs D3 threads I think they are stupid when they are being posted in the H2 General Discussion. I think both games will be great, but I am apealled to H2 more. Anyways, that is my word in the matter.

hey i got an idea, lets fight about stuff that doesnt matter!
